oooh hello !! i love being able to talk about pharmacy things so thank you very much for bringing this up. i'm gonna put it under the cut in case anyone doesn't wanna see talking about medications (over the counter)
i just wholeheartedly think tylenol shouldn't be over the counter anymore. people use it wrong all the time and that'll fuck up someone's liver. people think they can just pop like 12 and you. can't. do that.
the whole point of OTC is that the medication is easily used and cannot reasonably harm someone if taken wrong but like. but like. tylenol could fuck someone up. and there's SO MANY interactions where it's like yeah please don't take acetaminophen with this thing and how is the average person supposed to 1) keep track of it all and 2) know when to care about said interaction?? like that's....literally a pharmacist's job.
and also, they shove acetaminophen in EVERYTHING. like if you go down the aisle at walgreens, pick up any cold/flu med, congestion, headaches, and it all has it in it. so like, if we tell a person on a tylenol bottle that you can only take 3500-4000mg a day so you can take x many pills a day, but then also put it in weird products you wouldn't think of having it in?? that SPELLS OUT overusing which again, that poor liver.
idk. i just think it's a bad idea and there's so many other otc pain relievers out there.
I’m dying of laughter atm because the pharmacist who gave me shit all this last year just realized that without me there, she’s going to have to work Saturdays.
And she is texting to see if I can work “a Saturday every month.”
I don’t know my new schedule yet so right now that’s a no...and once I do know, any fill in days I have available will be prioritized to the other two pharmacists who were quite pleasant to work with.
Also, that’s a conversation I need to have with the Boss first. Which, it’s going to be a yes but still.
My kink is when the control substance count matches the computer inventory.
Every day at work I want to make this joke but my coworkers just aren’t the right audience. My techs and fellow pharmacists are all 10 to 40 years older than me and not the the type to have a tumblr...except one tech, who has a tumblr but is also 17.
So being a nice, small town pharmacy, we actually get to listen to a radio station of our choosing and we were listening to the local pop station. Despite lacking grace or rhythm, I am prone to moving with music thanks marching band so I swinging my hips a bit as I was working on the computer.
A patient in his 70s says to me, “why don’t you dance for me?” and at first I don’t register it because my pharmacist!hearing focuses on catching things like this is the wrong dose or can I take these meds together. And then he says “don’t ignore me! I like your dancing.”
At this, I can really only stare. This patient, who my tech is rerunning his med through his new insurance, can’t wait five minutes and not be creepy to a woman 50 years younger than him? So I just roll my eyes and go back to work. Thankfully, my tech fixes the insurance quickly and I don’t have to deal with more comments beyond a last “Oh, come on!” (As if I were inconveniencing him by focusing on my job!)
I love physical study books and all but one of mine I have for pharmacy is from 2007 so the laws aren't all up to date. I got one of the practice questions "wrong" because I put vicodin down as a C2 instead of a C3
