Don't know if you guys have seen this photo, but the guy in shorts and the guy in the background are our pharmacology lecturers. They darted this hippo but the dart went in skew, drugging the hippos substantial layer of fat instead of its muscle, therefore not spreading the drug fast enough. The hippo slept a bit but as soon as they started working with it, it tried to eat them. Luckily the hippos intended meal got punched underneath the water and the hippo missed him. We got shown a video of the incident in class, where this screenshot comes from.
😭😭😭😭 I def just failed my #pharmocology test. Wtf was that? Lol one of my classmates said it accurately, "Is this the right test?" Smdh that shit was wayyy more advanced than we were prepared for. I just called the doctor whenever there was that option. Omg I studied so hard for that. She needs to grade that now! I gotta get those questions back and research every got dang word and medication listed. Yo, this professor looks like a sweet older lady. She just fed us a test of kick ass along with a smile. #WeedingOut begins... https://www.instagram.com/p/BupNovIlizD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1n2reqxbjuu90
It's been known for more than a century that acetaminophen is an effective painkiller, but according to a new U of T study it could also be impeding error-detection in the brain.
I hate the insulins. Too many onsets, peaks, durations and names. Here is my funny way to remember them. (I know every source varies in time frames for the peaks and durations, etc; These ones I have to remember.) It’s a long post.
Onsets, Peaks, Durations
Rapid- 15 min; 1 hour; 2-4 hours
Short- 30-60 min; 2-3 hours; 4-6 hours
Intermediate- 2-4 hours; 4-12 hours; 12-18 hours
Long- 3-14 hours; 3-14 hours; 24 hours
With onsets you add one hour (or one 15 min). Starting with Rapid: within 15 minutes (+15 minutes) 30 minutes - 1 hour (+1 hour) 2-4 hours (+1 hour) 3-14 hours.
Peaks are the same way (but Long Acting screws it up) 1 hour (+1 hour), 2-3 (+1 hour) 4-12. I just remember Levemir is 3-14 hours, the same as the onset, and Lantus doesn’t have one.
Durations follow the same pattern but I double the hour. 2-4 hours (2x2 =4) 4-6 hours (6x2 = 12) 12-18 hours (12x2 = 24) 24 hours.
Picture a log rolling down a hill rapidly to remember Humalog/Novolog. Add an R infront of Apidra to form RApidra.
Lick (Lispor)
Her (Humalog)
Ass (Aspart)
Now (Novolog)
Get (Glulisine)
At It (Apidra)
Short Acting Insulin
Regular [Humulin R, Novolin R]
Not a log, so it’s not rolling rapidly. Lin R is very short.
Intermediate Acting Insulin
NPH [Humulin N, Novolin N]
Not a log, not rolling rapidly. Lin is Not fond that I call her short. She is Goldilocks. (not too short, not too long - intermediate)
Long Acting Insulin
Determir [Levemir]; Glargine [Lantus]
I remember the Ls in Levemir and Lantus for Long Acting. Lantus ain’t have no peak.
To remember they don’t mix with other insulin: Glargine reminds me of gnarl (so not friendly). Levemir - mir is I in German, so I think of I only like me.
Dean (Determir)
Levitates (Levemir)
Ghosts (Glargine)
Laugh (Lantus)
I hope you can pull something out of this to help!
