WEEK 9 WITH VARIOUS TASKS
COLLECTION OF QUESTIONNAIRES FROM DIEPSLOOT PRIMARY SCHOOL ON HEALTHY EATING AND OVERALL NUTRITION THAT PLAYS A ROLE IN THEIR DAILY LIFESTYLE.
The aim of CARe visiting the community school was to enhance the children's awareness and increase their knowledge about healthy eating patterns and the challenges they face in order to obtain sufficient nutrient levels in active daily lives. Through the help of a CARe based health worker (my field supporter MOSES) and teacher as well as the children, we obtained a great outcome and this resulted in great data collection. My overall impression of the day out was really heart felt as the whole community welcomed me with a warm and open hand and many thanks must go to the kind teachers for assisting us through out the days on field activities.
“Back at office” we were set hard to work at imputing all the raw data and continue on analyzing the collected data in various software formats through out the day. All the participants in the data collection room at CARe are interns from various African based countries namely Zambia, Namibia and Botswana etc.
INDIVIDUAL WORK ALONGSIDE MY INTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR , NDUMISO
We are preparing for the 11th Annual Conference of the Public Health Association of South Africa which will take place between 7-9 October 2015 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. With 2015 being the target date for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, the conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by South Africa and Africa in trying to achieve the MDGs. The focus of the conference though will be on moving forward and identifying potential solutions both within and outside the health system in order to improve the health status of the African population. This is reflected in the theme of conference “Health and Sustainable Development: The Future”.
The 2015 PHASA Conference will be more interactive than previous PHASA conferences. A panel debate involving politicians, civil society and academics is set to be one of the highlights of the 2015 PHASA Conference. There will be a greater media and social media presence at the 2015 PHASA Conference ensuring that research findings and key issues reach a broader audience.
in order to be a participant in the huge event we at CARe need to create at least one abstract. Never the less we are in the process to create three systematic research documents. I have come up with the following research questions which will be based in my Bachelor thesis project.
What are the dietary patterns and nutritional status of adolescents in Southern Africa?
What are the knowledge levels on good dietary practices among adolescents in Southern Africa?
Which factors influence the food choices among Adolescents in Southern Africa?
I feel appreciated and humbled that my host acknowledges my knowledge and input and I have an opportunity to participate in upcoming conference even after my internship period will be finish in that period of time.
