you’re not alone! i feel the same way about words. they all “feel” different and kind of…appear different on the page?

yeah, no, exactly! like it's not just the denotations and connotations and the differences between them, but it's the rhythm of the word, the way it sounds in your head, the way you imagine it rolling off your tongue (I always write while imagining I'm reading aloud).

I have synesthesia, too -- certain things have colors in my mind, like numbers and words and moods and rooms and people -- and that adds another layer to it. like part of the difference between "break" and "shatter" for me is that, y'know, they're both blue, but "break" is a darker, deeper blue, with almost a crimson edge to it (imagine someone's just punched their way through a window at dusk, and you've got the blue light of the darkening sky through the glass and the blood on the edges of the shards from where they cut the person's hand) while "shatter" is lighter, grayer, thinner (think a window on an incredibly foggy day, and it's right after some secret agent or something has aimed a high-pitched sound generating device at the glass so that it breaks almost into a vapor, the shards just tiny slivers cascading down through the fog like sand). yeah, those nuances can get interesting.

same dude I’ve been told so many times “you use a lot of words most people don’t use anymore” and one time in middle school a teacher thought I plagiarized my paper b/c my vocabulary was too big

omfg I've never been accused of plagiarism but I always worried about it. it helped that I went through a ~*~*gifted program*~*~ in elementary school/junior high and took nearly all APs in high school. a certain amount of pedantry was expected. people just always seemed really surprised that I wasn't more pompous about it. (which is not to say I had/have no pride at all. I can be a jackass sometimes.)
