Vy, unlike Vallie, really isn't seen outside of faer Phelion form very often. They prefer it greatly to their base form. But there are occasions.

Rhizon [REE-zon], he/they/any, a Phelion who is a Didact of the Academy. He offers Exploration mentorships every other year, with the years in between spent on solitary travels.

My first new Phelion since..... 2022? Haha. He's a little intimidating but quite soft.

Rhizon

Phelion Name: Rhizon [REE-zon] Human Name: Luse Belov Gender: Somnivirgender Pronouns: he/they/any

In their Shifted form, Rhizon is often first described as imposing. In their base form, Rhizon is often first described as ethereal. Their rather quiet nature does nothing to dissuade either of these notions. Their gaze often feels overly analytical, and they might give someone a once-over that leaves them feeling all too seen. However, unless asked specifically or if it is a matter of teaching students, they tend not to share their observations.

Even among Phelions, Rhizon is considered remarkably intelligent and observant—that said, they tend not to be hurried or driven, and enjoy all sorts of solitary and peaceful activities. They enjoy taking naps in unusual locations or just out in the wilderness, whether in their base form or Shifted form, and it is often a great difficulty to wake them (so long as there isn't any real danger). They enjoy making music, knowing how to sing and play several instruments from Earth and other alien civilizations, sometimes pulling them out of nowhere during an expedition to play a tune.

There are days that he is sad, though—perhaps not to the point of depression, but he is more melancholic and reticent than usual, caught up in memories of people and things he's lost. It can be hard to tell for most, but many of their friends can—and they appreciate a hug, a shoulder to lean on, quiet warmth and comfortable company.

Didact Info

Rhizon began informally teaching from 2050, which continued until the first Aphel invasion in 2055. After five years of productive wallowing in which he earned all his qualifications officially, he became a Didact and began taking on students more formally.

Rhizon offers mentorship courses every other year, generally only taking 1-3 students at a time. These students will join an exploration team with Rhizon and 1-2 other qualified Phelions to assist with teaching, defending, and other needs of the students. Students are expected to have taken at least Intro to Exploration and some other Exploration core courses. 

During this course, students are taught hands-on how to operate space vessels as Phelions, how to record observational data, what kind of data is needed, how to handle contact with alien life and civilization, and more. It is a highly experiential course that many Exploration students like to take if they can, offering them all sorts of practical knowledge and the experience of what an expedition might be like. 

As a teacher, Rhizon is patient but to-the-point; not mean, but he does not mince his words, even if they are delivered in a soft, lovely voice. Outside of the "lesson sessions," though, the students often find him napping, playing music, or flitting around nature like some kind of dark fairy. The students aren't given the time of day if they try to disturb him, but they are welcome to quietly join him. 

Timeline

2027: born as Luse

2037 (at 10): developed narcolepsy

2039 (at 12): diagnosed with narcolepsy 

2039-2042: early integration. Luse was more tired, worried narcolepsy was worsening

2042: late integration. Luse is more energetic but also strange, starts reaching out to others experiencing similar things

2043: Kaluin invites Luse and others he maintained contact with to a meeting—early Periapsis

2045: Kaluin Shifts, soon followed by Luse, who chose the name Rhizon 

2045-2050: Rhizon explores, mapping out space 

2050: Kaluin asks Rhizon for teaching advice and Rhizon starts becoming involved in teaching informally

2055: Aphels attack

2060: Rhizon officially becomes a Didact and starts teaching again
