Sam, that is 8 hot dogs. Please do not be consuming 8 hot dogs in one sitting (because if you do it I will want to do it, and that much hotteth dog would probably kill me)

I CANNOT EAT EIGHT HOT DOGS, that would kill anyone. I was going to cut them into bars like brownies and bring them to a potluck with dipping mustard!

I can see how I'd make one, but I can't figure out how you would serve or eat one. Cut it into squares? Strips? Which direction for strips?

See, I think bars, and then just for extra absurdity you eat them off china using a knife and fork. Possibly while wearing evening gloves if that’s your thing.

Sam. Sam. I literally reached out and booped her snoot on my laptop screen. The power of Polk compelled me.

That’s her favorite kind of snootboop, because it means nobody is touching her nose. She’s very particular about her nose :D

I love that she has both black and white whiskers. Matches the nose freckles.

She used to have all white whiskers and just one black whisker, but yeah as the freckles have spread, so have the black whiskers. :D

I'm glad you've got a trained team member. I used to have to deal with anything of the sort myself, and against my call duration metric

Oh yeah. The training is actually open to anyone who wants it, but he’s the guy who handles the most so he’s got a lot of real-world experience too. Most of our gift processing team (the people I sit with) have it too, because they accept donations by phone and sometimes it’s someone giving in memory of.

For the Fan Fiction Ask: The Happily-Ever-After Business is one of my favorite fics. #4 What's your favorite line of dialogue?

“The way I see it, I’m only gettin’ married once. I want a weddin’ to remember.”

“Will you let me plan it?” Steve asks.

[...]

“Lately, I’ve been thinkin’ you’d be the other groom,” Bucky says.

Steve and Bucky are both such human disasters in this fic and the fact that they both want to go from 0 to 100 with each other immediately but keep holding themselves back is their greatest thing in common. I just liked that Bucky sort of broke first and did it in such a dorkily smooth way.

We all have our something, I suppose. I often feel like I’m constantly having to read a Field Guide when it comes to ways we perform femininity. And that’s with me liking things like clothes and makeup and hair (skill at these things, that’s different)

1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to? 

Oh jeez, um, okay, they’d probably need to read the Hitchhikers Quartet or anything by Terry Pratchett to get my sense of humor, they’d need to listen to everything by Nine Inch Nails to get my sense of self and my anger, and they’d probably need to watch The Princess Bride if they wanted to understand why I still think the world is an awesome place in spite of the bullshit.

She actually didn’t fall, I was very proud of her. I thought for sure she was going to, but a MIGHTY LEAP enabled her to land safely on the bedside table.

'sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters'

They really are. When the vet took Polk out of the room to wash her ears and give her a booster shot, Dearborn freaked out a bit, and it occurred to me that Polk and Dearborn have probably never been apart for more than a few minutes at a time in their whole lives. They were born and rescued together and in the shelter they shared a habitat. Probably the last time they were separated was to get spayed and they were unconscious for most of that.

She's probably trying to make Polk smell less like Vet's Office.

Oh yeah, for sure. They washed her with some kind of disinfectant or antibiotic and I’m 100% sure Dearborn was like “I CAN TAKE CARE OF THIS FOR YOU.”

I keep trying but they refuse to hold still when being extra adorable even when I explain it’s for their fans.

Face grooming is a sign of dominance. If this doesn't lead to a wrestling match, it means that Polk is happy with Dearborn being in charge. Which means you don't have to break up fights when the "kids" decide that they want to change dynamics. I envy you. (says the chick with 5 unrelated cats)

Well, they wrestle playfully all the time, but it’s claws-in, and if one of them bites the other one yells and they both stop. This is the first time I’ve ever seen them grooming each other, though. 

It’s tough to tell what’s dominance and what’s sisterly care -- Polk rarely eats all of her food and Dearborn usually finishes it off, but Dearborn was also the thinner and smaller of the two when I got them, so I don’t know if Dearborn is taking her food or if Polk is like “Okay, you need the rest.” (They both get plenty of food, they have a dry food bowl and eat from it, but the wet food is somewhat contested.) Either way, they seem to get on all right, and since the rough-housing is mutual I usually don’t bother to break it up.

16. Hibiscus tea: What is a song you can always hear? 

- This is harder than it looks because sometimes I don’t feel like listening to songs that I know are some of my all time favorites.  It’s just a matter of the mood, you know?  

Two songs that I will stop and listen to when they either come up on the radio or on my iPod are:

- Dreams, by The Cranberries (the band recently recorded a new, acoustic/orchestral variation of the song too for its [year redacted because oh fuck i’m old] recording anniversary which I highly recommend hunting down if you can.

- Church on Sunday, by Green Day.  For me, this is probably one of the most romantic songs I’ve ever heard, which may be more indicative of my skewed view on romance than anything else.  Regardless, I love this song, and it’s nowhere near as popular as it should be.

Cocktail o’clock from one of my favorite breweries ever (their Three Philosophers brew is one of my perennial beer choices, at least in the winter - it’s a dark and rich brew that is better when it’s colder outside).  Technically.  According to the label the Rosetta is brewed by a sister brewery in Belgium.  But as I will follow Ommegang Brewery into hell, I figured I’d give this one a shot when I ran past it.

The cherries there in the description isn’t a lie - this drink is probably closer to a fruity cider, though there’s a bit of the bitterness of ale there underneath.  A little on the pricey side, but so worth it, at least if you like sweeter beers.  Also it has a decent alcoholic content in it as well (well, at least it’s not the 4% that you get with some other drinks), which I desperately need tonight.

In more personal news, my Grandpa (the one I share a house with) has been in the hospital since Thursday because his heart isn’t functioning again.  He went into surgery this afternoon for a pacemaker, which will hopefully go far to help keep his heart going.  And as I’m here typing up this post, I just got a series of text messages from my sister saying that he’s made it through the surgery well, come out of anesthesia...and is hungry.  Which is a very good thing. 

Okay, I am off to spend some quality Tumblr time (which I haven’t been able to do for, like, a week now and it is making me feel so deprived) and then dive straight into ficland.  @pheylan13, I owe you some comments, which I’ll do in a more private format than my blog.  What I will say, however, is this: how could you end it there?!?!?!??!?! 

When you get me yelling at my screen, you know you’re on to a good thing. :D
