This morning I had the pleasure of attending a workshop that a friend of mine, Lauren Nixon, hosted at The Free Library of Philadelphia. This workshop, titled Summer Wellness Toolkit, was a space for us to share what wellness actually means to us and for Lauren to share her wisdom of wellness.
Guests were invited to make nutritious food (kale pesto, arugula salad) with produce donated from Bartram’s Garden, a historic landmark in Philadelphia that provides outdoor education with gardening and art through a variety of programs. All of the food was incredibly delicious, of course. In the end, we were treated with popsicles (cacao, banana, avocado, coconut water, maple syrup, spinach // WHAT!? SO GOOD) made by Ms. Lauren, herself.
So what does wellness mean to me? Being self-aware of my physical and mental needs and catering to them. Taking time for myself. Tuning out of electronic devices. Reading a book. Taking a bath. Crying when I just really need to. Practicing yoga. Cooking a bad-ass meal while dancing. And most importantly, being selfish without giving a damn.
How do you define wellness in your own life? What are some ways to ensure that you follow that schedule?
