Consolidation = neither an uptrend nor a downtrend

3. Major trends have three phases.

4. The averages must confirm with each other.

The mining industry was down during the bull run of 2012-2013 due to Padcal mine spill and the proposed amendment of Philippine mining laws. There was a slight uptick from December 2013 to January 2014 in anticipation of a new mining law to protect the interest of the investing sector and the environment.

5. Volume must confirm the trend.

Any move that's not backed up by sufficient volume is unsustainable.
