#SandraVreeland was a #poet and the director of an #AIDS poetry project for young people. She died in August 1996 at her home in #Bridgehampton aged 38. Working with the #PoetrySocietyofAmerica, she created her poetry project in 1994 to encourage young people to express their thoughts and feelings about #HIV infection through poetry. She had begun to write verse at a young age and published a collection of her poems as ''The Sky Lotto.'' She was born in #Washington, the daughter of #Heywardsham, a former United States ambassador to #Haiti, and #SheilaIsham, a painter. After graduating from #PhillipsAcademyAndover, Mass., where she directed plays, she lived and studied in #HongKong, #Paris and #Haiti. #ReedVreeland (pictured above with his mother in 1989) was born with #HIV. “Knowing I had the same thing that I was watching her die of, that was hard to grapple with.
