Today I donated $5 to local nonprofits through Making Change. I also raised funds for RAINN through goodsearch.
My thoughts on JBiebs
Okay, this is a serious post. Read it as one.
A lot of people on the internet talk about Justin Bieber like he's a horrible person. He's often ridiculed and referred to as a fail in the music world. But I want to talk about something. He's actually a pretty good person. I think he deserves respect at least for the fact that he is a fabulous role model for the kids that adore him.
So I went to see Never Say Never kind of as a joke. But I saw it in theatres and learned that JBiebs is actually an extremely talented musician. The kid was a drummer for a legit jazz band at age nine. He's a fabulous guitarist and has a good, non-processed singing voice. I know I'm not going to sell anyone on his music though. It's poppy with superficial lyrics. It's mainstream. I personally find it catchy but I know I'm one of very few over the age of 18 that falls into that category. And I'll happily admit that some of his songs are just plain bad.
However, he does good things. Look at other "role models" children have nowadays. Justin Bieber doesn't do drugs, doesn't sleep around, and he makes a solid effort at giving back to the community and his fans. For his 80-something concerts last year, he met with a child from the Make A Wish Foundation at each one. He wants to start flying a different child to hang out with and play games with him every week in NY (nbd, I watched snippets of his birthday special on Ellen). He does a lot to raise awareness and funds for legitimate causes. He's damn powerful. I think that Justin Bieber (JBiebs) has the power to do a lot and I don't think it's a bad thing. He has a massive following and he has done good with it so far. The boy might be cheesy as hell, but he's a pretty good person for our youth to be looking up to.
