The Battle of Ealdor
I admire the stubbornness to not see magic though. Like, the Pendragons really don’t wanna see it at all, huh?
Literally last week an evil witch took shape of a beautiful young woman and sang you all into a Sleeping Beauty slumber. You are literally keeping a fucking dragon in the basement. The existence of magic is not even in question here.
But a knight? Using magic on his shield?? Whaaat? Nooo.
And the boy who just earned your trust by saving your son’s life? Let’s not give him the benefit of doubt. Let’s also ignore the solid forensic evidence Gaius can provide with the venom, the snake bites and the literal snake head that Merlin brought.
It’s like... like those homophobe relatives who’d rather pretend the lesbian wedding is a weird barbecue than acknowledge the homosexuality happening in front of them. That’s exactly what that is. You know it’s real and you are vocal about not liking it but let’s pretend it isn’t right the fuck in front of you.
The whole show really is just a metaphor for Merlin being hella gay and Uther continuing to ignore how gay Merlin is being all over the palace and the prince.
Okay but, damn I love Merwaine.
Merlin, heartbroken and at his lowest, with his father-figure abducted and Arthur rather siding with his hella shady uncle instead of with Merlin and Gaius...
...and Gwaine’s there. Gwaine’s right there, ready to help. Because that’s what he does. He’s there when Merlin needs him.
Real talk though: This is why I ship them so hard.
Because Gwaine does all of this for Merlin. Everyone keeps getting drawn in by Arthur’s charm.
And yes, Arthur, Morgana and Gwen were willing to come to Merlin’s hometown and help him when his mother needs it (another favorite episode of mine), but with Gwaine it’s all Merlin.
Merlin’s role, in this show, is to be the supporter of others. And Gwaine’s role is to be Merlin’s supporter.
And that’s just the kind of ship I really love. When a character who constantly does everything for everyone has that one character who is all theirs and all there for him.
Solid ship. Good ship. Beautiful ship. I love my boys.
Gods, Merlin you have such an instant crush on Lancelot, you go and forge him a seal of nobility to keep him around and help him fulfill his dream.
And Gwen just instantly getting charmed by him too.
And Lance, stop fanboying about Arthur.
Honestly, the entire Lancelot episode is literally just Lance being a disaster bi making everyone fall for him?? I love him so much? And so does everyone in canon??
Merlin: Why do you want to do this?
Gwaine: Same reason as you. Help a friend.
Merlin: Arthur is lucky to have us.
Gwaine: Not Arthur. *stares intensely at Merlin with heart-eyes*
You know what improves an already great and amazing show?
WHEN YOUR OTP FINALLY MEETS AND GETS TO INTERACT.
THAT’S WHAT MAKES GOOD EVEN BETTER.
Merlin: Gotta go help my mom
Gwen & Morgana: ROADTRIP!
No, but in all seriousness, I love it. I love just how non-negotiable they are about this. They are ready to fight for Merlin, ready to help when it’s Merlin who needs help for a change. The power of a real good, amazing, lovable brOT3.
