Fic rec! Bbc Merlin, canon era, 5k one shot. Summary: With Merlin missing for days, Arthur knows that he should leave his knights to follow the cold trails, turn his attention back to his kingdom, and comfort Gwen. But he can't. Comments: I love the angst romances that end on a sweet note. I mean, Arthur pretty much realizes what he wants and then casts it aside in the span of hours, poor sod. But Gwaine comes out of this richer. Giving up you're happiness for another's, that's true love.

Not to mention the part where they met Gwaine literally once. And Gwaine left without even telling them where to. But somehow, Merlin leaves after Arthur, goes to track down Gwaine, manages to do so in record time to then follow Arthur and catch up to him in the Fisher King’s realm. Did you put a tracker on Gwaine the last time you saw him, Merlin...? Keeping tabs on the boyfriend, huh?

Gwain and Merlin

I have to preface this one with saying I'm only 2 or 3 episodes into series 4 - so I don't have a full sampling yet.

Why I like them: I like that Gwaine is just reckless and fun and strong enough to challenge even Arthur (so he can back up his recklessness).  I love Merlin for a billion reasons, but mostly because he's undyingly loyal and also a bit stupid at times.  I love Gwaine and Merlin together because they have ample amounts of homosexual tension (duh) but also Merlin relies on Gwaine when he has no one else, when Arthur is off doing stupid quests or whatever, even before Lancelot at times.  And together they are the most unfailingly cheerful presences in Camelot.  And they are both unfairly labelled as stupid.

Why I don’t:  I wish Merlin had showed Gwaine his magic (up to now) so they could be close like he and Lancelot were.  It felt like Lancelot could be a more complete friend because Merlin doesn't hide anything from him.  And you KNOW Gwaine wouldn't care.  He'd just laugh and smile and start plotting ways to use Merlin's magic to prank Arthur.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Geesh.  Picking favorite episodes is very.hard.for.me.  For a Gwaine and Merlin-centric episode, I love the Eye of the Phoenix (though its not flawless from a story telling perspective.)

Favorite season/movie: So far, Series 2 I think.

Favorite line: Between Gwaine and Merlin.  Gwaine: "How did you find me?" Merlin: "It wasn't easy; I've been in almost every tavern in Engred."  Gwaine: "So have I."

Favorite outfit: Merlin - he wears the same thing in every episode, but he does wear it well.  Gwaine - when he was shirtless in Merlins bed.

OTP: THEM TOGETHER - with Lancelot in there.

Brotp: them together?  This seems like cheating.  Otherwise, I love Gwaine and that knight with no sleeves (Peregrine?).  And Merlin - I have to go with Merthur of course.

Head Canon: I haven't been watching the show long enough to develop good head canon - but I want Gwaine to find out about Merlin's magic.  As above.  And just role with it.  And laugh really hard.  And then maybe use it to swindle tavern owners.

Unpopular opinion: Sometimes I think Gwaine and Merlin have more chemistry then Merlin and Arthur.

A wish: That the show not end in 5 series.  And that Gwaine not apparently die (don't know how yet, but I hear it happens.)

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Gwaine dying....though I hear I'm not getting my wish.  Also Mergana - especially now.  Sorry Mergana fans.

5 words to best describe them: Silly, Reckless, Powerful, Underestimated, Daft.  (Weirdly, this describes BOTH of them.)

My nickname for them:  GWALIN.  Has the benefit of sounding like a word Merlin would say during a spell.
