Phoenix AU Page Up!

Hi all!

You may or may not know that I’ve been working on a fic since forever, and I decided to make an info page for it since it’s a unique universe! This is mainly cuz I decided since I’ve been talking about it since forever I should at least compile a bit of the info for you guys :””) Also ty to @wittyy-name and @wolfpainters for encouraging me throughout this fic :”””)

Hiya, just wondering if you had any more thoughts on the Phoenix AU? I'd love to hear more about it

OOHH BOY I HAVE SO MUCH INFO ON THE PHOENIX AU its taking a aaggeesss to develop but im going to try and eventually turn it into a fanfic :”””)

General info about the au:

Takes place mainly in Wyoming, USA (also some Florida) during summer break

Modern AU similar to canonverse except instead of space study its study of the supernatural/mythical stuff

Current most popular research topics are the Phoenix (top) and the Siren (second)

Ghosts/spirits are a confirmed existence

Garrison is the leading researchers of the supernatural/mythical stuff

There is only one full phoenix in existence (not Keith) which lives in America’s Yellowstone Park

Keith:

He’s a 20yr old half phoenix

Orphan

Banished from his village

Village is small af and next to a dormant volcano (it doesn’t exist irl lmao)

Keith lives on the dormant volcano next to the village

As a phoenix, he will die if exposed to very cold temperatures

His wings are an ashen red/dull red colour but turn bright orange/red when in use

Has a tattoo that begins at his right chest and ends at his right elbow

Probably the strongest half-phoenix right now but has poor control

Heightened senses

Likes collecting precious stones and is a bit of a clean freak

Amazing singing voice but doesn’t know any tunes

Completely detached from society and as such doesn’t understand the concept of social cues

Brothers (not blood related) with Shiro

Lance:

Regular 20yr old human

Majors in Supernatural Documentation and Analysis at the Wyoming Garrison campus (moving into final year at college)

Trained to take photos of the supernatural and also to analyse existing ones to confirm whether they are real or not

Super hard major because if you fuck up u get dropped almost immediately

Addicted to finding out about Phoenix (sirens are close second)

This fic is gonna be klance so we all know who’s going to go hunting for a certain phoenix based off random internet rumours

The Holts + Shiro are his damn heroes

Well-known for his amazing fashion photography

Best friends with Hunk and Pidge

Also insecurities :”) that only Hunk and Pidge know about

Hunk:

20yr old double majoring in Biochemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

Best friends with Lance and Pidge

In the engineering club with Pidge (He’s captain and she’s vice)

Roomies with Lance in the dorm

Constantly getting roped into Lance’s shenanigans

Literally the guy that has to get Lance out of trouble

Constantly worried about Lance getting himself in a shit tonne of danger

Everybody loves this boy

Pidge Gunderson/Katie Holt/The Holts in general:

16 yr old genius one year below Lance and Hunk, double majors in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science

Pidge Gunderson is her fake identity and no one knows that she’s Katie Holt aside from her family, Shiro and Keith (though Keith hasn’t met her before), even Lance and Hunk don’t know (though Hunk has his suspicions)

Pretends that she hates the topic of phoenix to draw attention/suspicion away from herself

The Holts are the leading researchers of the Phoenix

People know about that there are four members of the family but no one knows what the daughter (Katie/Pidge) looks like

Research is strictly confidential

Research is gained from Shiro, who is also half-phoenix

Lives right by/basically inside Yellowstone Park

Shiro:

25yr old half-phoenix

Lives near the Holts and with the one full phoenix in Yellowstone Park

Became a phoenix at 22

Weaker than Keith but has better control

Black/grey ash coloured wings

Has a tattoo that runs across his lower back and wraps around his stomach

Can converse telepathically with the full phoenix

Helps the Holts with their research

Is currently announced missing/dead to the public

Allura/Coran:

Both are half sirens of different types

Allura is 25 and Coran is 43

Work on siren research in the Florida Garrison branch however often go to the Wyoming branch to share research with the Holts

Allura became head of department after her father died in a shipwreck

I am super interested in your Phoenix AU! I honestly have so many questions but I have no idea how to word/phrase them because honestly, this AU just sounds so amazing and I would honestly give my right arm (hehehe bad pun I know) to read it. Also, Klance for the win!

Do or are half-something people treated badly or as second class citizens by normal people?

Ah well the thing with this is that half-people aren’t a known existence by the public. While the public knows that the Garrison (and the Galra for that matter) is researching these supernatural beings, they do not know whether they actually exist or not. The only confirmed supernatural existence is ghosts/spirits. This is why people are constantly looking for these supernatural phenomenon because its something that most people want to find out.

Keith’s birthplace was a very small sort of village (like one of those farm ones) who were scared of Keith’s abilities. They didn’t know what he was (unlike most people of modern society) and hence banished him from the village.

Does the government/ruling body do anything to help them or do they leave people to deal with it by themselves?

The government provides huge subsidies for the Garrison :) but other than that they leave the Garrison alone, they don’t play a huge part in this au

Is it technically as advanced as it is in canon or is it more realistic today type tech?

It’s closer to canonverse, except technological advancement didn’t go toward space/finding extraterrestrial beings, but more toward finding supernatural beings on Earth. Transport and all is more or less the same as in there are no hoverboards and such, but analytical technology and all that is very highly advanced.

Do people studying Phoenix/Half-Phoenix have some sort of jetpack/self-flying thing so they can ply with the subjects of their research?

The thing with this is that half-phoenix are super rare, the only ones that will be mentioned in the au are Shiro and Keith (currently debating whether or not to make it so that they are the only ones in existence). The Holts are also the only ones studying Phoenix and they’re far ahead of any other research department. They don’t let anyone else in for fear that they will discover Shiro, which is they’re only research subject right now. Dw they treat him really well and don’t do weird shit to him, but no the Holts don’t feel the need to have to fly with Shiro as it could disrupt his flight.

Do people who study things that are related to the Phoenix/Siren get less funding than those that don’t?

The Holts get the most funding yep. Allura and Coran are the only people left in the Siren research department, no one else wants to join after the incident that got her father and his entire crew killed. But they get second most funding.

Are there types of mythical creatures that cause the people who research them to get ridiculed?

Not really, I mean no one really has solid evidence for any sort of supernatural/mythical being as of yet (publicly released info at least). It depends on the success of your department, the more successful you are the more respect you earn. Hence why the Phoenix and Siren research departments are legendary, but other than that everyone else is roughly on the same level.
