Phoenix (WSYR-TV) — It’s the one thing other parades around Central New York didn’t have Monday – a marriage proposal! The village of Phoenix’s parade came to a halt when a DPW worker driving in it surprised his girlfriend and popped the question. Samantha Miner and her family have attended Phoenix’s annual Memorial Day Parade for years, but this one would be one she’d never forget. Miner knew her high school sweetheart and boyfriend of five years – Chris Razy – would be driving a DPW truck for the village, so she stood by watching, as her family and most everyone around her knew what was about to happen. As Chris’ truck approached, it was hard for Samantha to miss the giant sign asking her to marry him. After a “yes” in the middle of Main Street, in front of dozens, Samantha was left nearly speechless. “I knew it was coming, but it’s a big shock to do it this way,” Miner said. Planning for the proposal began three months ago when Chris approached Mayor Tony Fratto, who said, “She was surprised and his family was surprised and we were grateful we could do that.” Popping the question this way is not what Chris’ father had ever imagined. “He’s a very reserved young man, so I’m surprised he was able to do it in front of all these people. I give him a lot of credit for it,” Chris’ father, Mike Razy said. A very special proposal that Samantha and Chris will remember for years to come as the parade makes its way down Main Street.
