I fully believe based on the only one of her books I’ve read that Grace Draven is my sister in arms when it comes to fantasy politics. Because the Romance book I read was like 85% intricate fantasy language/political/social shit, 10% was tension and like 5% or less was actually pretty mild sex. And I’m very much here for it. I may have been expecting like more than a single sex scene but the intricate social dynamics made up for it tbh

Phoenix Unbound | Grace Draven
This is my third Grace Draven and possibly my favorite. I found the writing strong and Gilene a great FMC with some interesting powers. Draven's writing is lyrical and wonderfully flowery here and I enjoyed the book. I did find some parts a little long but it's a fun ride.
I listened to the audiobook and recommend it.

There’s this whole enemies to lovers going on coz he kidnaps her to gain his chieftancy. Those with power over fire are revered in his clan and having her gives him support to get his birthright back. But all she wants is to go home because if she doesn’t, another girl (with none of her fire retardant abilities) would be chosen for the next year’s sacrifice
Omg! So amazing. I love how the romance builds.
I usually do not like Roman gladiatorial type stories but so happy this was such an exceptional book!
