Saitama and otherworldy powers

It's not the first nor will be the last time Saitama has showcased that he seems to work outside the established logic, time and space of the manga. In the last chapter 209: Catch, Saitama catches Empty void's Dimension blade by hand, which is supposed to cut through space itself as Void slices into the world from hyperspace.

Saitama's other feats featuring him using some kind of otherworldy, illogical power has Saitama break into Phoenixman's creation, a spiritual space where Phoenixman attempted to get Child emperor to join his side. (Chapter 100: Light.)

(It's ok, he knocked first before entering. :p)

Lastly but not leastly Saitama showcased his illogical, science defying abilities is when he not only kicks away Garou's portal in chapter 167: I.O but on the same go, he grabs a hyperspace gate and turns it vertical to avoid a blow from Garou and counterattacks.

In the same chapter, right after performing Omnidirectional serious punch and Garou dodges with a hyperspace portal, Saitama is already inside the portal, ready to punch Garou out.

Troughout all the epic battle between Saitama and Garou, Saitama also manages to keep Genos' core completely unscathed despite losing his own clothes, which is already impressive on it's own.

There is really nothing Saitama cannot seemingly do, which makes him quite terrifying to plain exist in the opm verse, as Garou noted after Saitama sneezed away jupiter.

Somehow, despite his hatred of children, he's drawn to them. I'm sure that as the story continues, these parts will be reincorporated into the text. In the meantime, as a mascot, he's once again close to unsuspecting kids, at least until he can figure out how to get his powers back.

The season finale. I’m nauseous. Lets begin. 

As always, I’m watching from the perspective of someone who has read the manga and webcomic.

I.. I’m kind of at a loss for words. I’m. That’s it, huh? It’s really over. It doesn’t FEEL over. There’s so much unfinished business. Well, the only way to really neatly wrap everything up as neatly as S1 did would have been to get ALL THE WAY through the Garou arc, which obviously wasn’t going to happen, but this is not a great spot to leave off if we’re going to endure another few years hiatus. My hope is that, with biweekley manga updates, we should wrap up the Monster Association/Garou stuff (assuming it doesn’t diverge from the web comic too much) some time next year, and I’m HOPING that s3 is already being planned accordingly along side manga publications. So MAYBE it will at least be announced around that time 2020. That’s my wishful thinking at least. I don’t think I can survive 3 years. anyway

You could really tell JC Staff poured their hearts and souls into these last 2 episodes. Absolutely gorgeous, paced well, so completely satisfying and making every second of s2 worth while. For me, at least. I’ve already seen people still complaining and I’m just sorry they didn’t have as much fun as I did. 

Seriously, thank each and every one of you guys. This has been a wild ride, I’ve barely had this blog a few weeks before season 2 started airing (and honestly just got into opm maybe a month before that?), so I owe a lot of the success on the blog to the anime I bet. This was the first series I’ve never tried live bogging, and I honestly can’t believe that they were as popular as they were? Especially since I never have any idea what I’m doing but yall listen to me ramble anyway?? Yall are crazy thank you so so so much. Now my tuesdays are gonna feel really empty… next week is gonna be weird as hell. Though I’m gonna get mad nostalgic good vibes rewatching this season in the future in no small part from sharing my experience with everyone who's stuck around. Aight, time to prove some God theory of mine.

Knowledge of the flow of all energy and behaviour of all the forces in the universe. Basically, every force that exists in OPM?

God knows this force and this energy. Because Cosmic Garou got this impartation of power from God.

ESP? Done. Fighting spirit? Yes. Resurrection? It's there. Cosmic powers? You're goddamn right. Time travel? Naturally.

Divine power and Saitama's power of origin? Duh, that's what it gave Garou. The power of cognition, the psyche, is strong in OPM God.

If the narration says all forces and all energies, it hardly just means "cosmic forces" like time, space, causality, black holes, star power or fission reaction. Why would it? It means literally everything that has been shown in OPM universe.

Horizons of power, meaning:

The Mind, the Body and the Soul. This is divine power in it's fullest form. That is my current hypothesis.

(Bottom is mind, middle is body and top is soul)

The mind consists of powers such as ESP and cognition. Big Brain power. The body consists of monsterization, emotions, drive and instincts, life and such bodily powers. Whether monsterization is separate from bodily powers? Who knows. Once the person has broken both of these limits of the mind and body and attained rebirth, they can obtain soul powers, cosmic powers. Inner universe.

Breaking the limit is basically breaking the limits of mortality.

All this already makes OPM God pretty damn fearsome opponent. But what about the cosmic powers, the inner universe and all this specifically make it soul power? Even if we don't delve into references and buddhist cosmology?

Because we've also been shown spiritualism in the series before, in phoenixman vs CE, where Phoenixman not only mentally connects and drags CE to a spiritual plane, but also resurrects dead people into zombies and casually resurrected two guys that Flashy killed. Who retained their personalities and their memories.

Their core beings were essentally dragged back from beyond the veil. Most likely because they did not yet have a chance to pass on to eternity from the Sanzu river, a place Zombieman saw when he died. Purgatory basically where the souls await their judgement. Unlike the mindless zombies phoenixman resurrected which had already died long ago and their souls had passed on, impossible to be revived.

Spiritualism is part of the universal powers, therefore it is also something OPM God has, as per narrative.

It is all even more clear when Garou, who has divine power, same as Saitama, comes back as a spirit to say goodbye to Tareo and that Saitama's physical body corrected the paradox that there could not exist two physical copies of Saitama in the same timeline.

Souls can apparently interact though and thats why the consciousness has no memory of this kind of interaction even happening. Available consciousness, the psyche, is different from the soul of the person. Soul exists far deeper than what the conscious mind is aware of and why spirits require an alternate state of consciousness to be seen.

OPM God would also have this kind of spiritual power and Saitama as well, if he ever taps into it consciously.

So, what is the common denominator between Garou's spiritual form and OPM God then?

They've both left their physical bodies behind.

Ergo, what it means...

He is already dead. He is a spirit.

That is why he calls himself "God."

How do you kill something that has no life?

Good fucking question mate.

The moon and his physical body is merely just a prison, if it's even bound to it anymore.

It's physical body may be the only way to actually bind it to space, time and causality. Otherwise it would have free reign. What a scary thought.

Now, a theory...

Deep inside the Earth, the abyss, there is something that Blast and Co want to keep sealed away.

Then Saitama and buddies went and interacted with God's cubes that opened a rift in the fabric of space. But what they also did was subtly, give it divine power and break through the fabric of space that it was sealed behind. Light in the darkness.

I doubt anybody knows about what actually happened here, but I have no doubts that this spirit is already wreacking havoc on the mortal world of OPM, because it got more powerful. That or Blast and Co have their hands full trying to contain it still. But I don't think even Blast and buddies know about the full extent of it's spiritual powers.

Saving the world? Spiritualism? Monsters from the Depths of the Earth?

What evil organizations exactly? In plural.

Also, it's not present in the anime so I'm not sure if it's relevant or not but...

Saitama, you do realize Monsters from the Depths of the Earth was just a dream and you didn't...really save the world from Subterraneans right?

You kicked one in the face and it got scared and ran away. You didn't save the world from them.

Is it just me or does Saitama have a disturbingly accurate image of how the actual, dead Subterraneans looked like, while dreaming?

Despite to our knowledge, never having fought these people for real so he never could have seen them?

Because you know...they were already dead?

Meanwhile, no recollection from Saitama whatsoever. And if Saitama had actually been down there, he would have known about the Monster association located down there too.

But somehow, he just knows what they looked like.

The graveyard of monsters, the cemetery of the tribe of the indigenous people, is also conveniently located under Saitama's house.

Then Phoenixman called these people back from the underworld.

You know, somehow I don't think the Subterranean in Saitama's "dream" was talking out of his ass anymore. When he called him and his buddies "True Earthlings."

In finnish mythos, shamans of the sami people Noaidi's are said to be able to traverse to the spirit world via traditional drums and when Noaidi is said to lose their powers from old age, they lose teeth.

Using a traditional drum, which is the most important symbol and tool of the Sámi noaidi, they invoke assistance from benevolent spirits and conducted out-of-body travel via the “free soul” with the help of other siida members. The Sámi distinguish between the “free soul” versus the more mundane “body soul”; the “body soul” is unable to traverse the divide separating the spiritual netherworld from the more mundane, corporeal, real world.[2]

A noaidi can engage in any kind of affair that demands wisdom; it is said they take payments for their services. The activities include healing people, helping children, making decisions and protecting reindeer, which represents the most important source of food and are also used as tribute payment.

The witch's tool was the witch's drum or spur (saam. goavddis), from whose signs the witch predicted the future. The drum also helped the witch enter a trance. The witch was assisted by a helping spirit (noaidi-vuoigŋa). Witchcraft was often inherited, for example from a parent. In particular, illnesses in childhood and adolescence were considered to be a sign of witchcraft. Otherwise, the witch was expected to be in good health. The loss of teeth in old age was seen as a sign of diminishing powers. Lars Levi Laestadius assumed that lapinnoids used a secret, narcotic substance in certain ceremonies before the ceremony to improve their body's performance and to increase their imaginative power. A potential reference to the witch's drum may be found from the season 1 ova endings. Coincidentally the song's names are Saitama no One Punch Ondo, where Ondo can also be translated into Haloperidol, which may be a wordplay.

Then in the manga, there is a shroom that appears when Saitama gets swallowed by a monster in pitch black and punches his way out. The reference to poison in bottle that I've made meta about, psychostimulants, may apply here.

Haloperidol, sold under the brand name Haldol among others, is a typical antipsychotic medication.[4] Haloperidol is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, tics in Tourette syndrome, mania in bipolar disorder, delirium, agitation, acute psychosis, and hallucinations from alcohol withdrawal.

Although poisonous, death due to poisoning from A. muscaria ingestion is quite rare. Parboiling twice with water draining weakens its toxicity and breaks down the mushroom's psychoactive substances; it is eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. All Amanita muscaria varieties, but in particular A. muscaria var. muscaria, are noted for their hallucinogenic properties, with the main psychoactive constituents being the neurotoxins ibotenic acid and muscimol. A local variety of the mushroom was used as an intoxicant and entheogen by the indigenous peoples of Siberia[7][8] and by the Sámi[

Both Saitama and Garou, beings who have divine powers and who have appeared in the spiritual plane at some point (Saitama punched into one, Garou became a spirit himself), have lost one of their teeth during parts of the story. Notably, Saitama's face became even more simple and derpier during that.

The opening itself also makes a curious reference to what seems to be a horde of shamanistic lookalike figures bearing necklaces not unlike one might find from the Subterraneans. Using chains to attack Saitama, like they are trying to chain him down.

Like a prelude to the actual challenges he faces in the series, that the next enemies in the opening are representing which he is meant to defeat.

The subterraneans themselves also wear these necklaces made out of Magatamas and what may be prayer beads.

Subterranean helmet that Phoenixman sits on is also a reference to Dogu.

Some scholars theorize the dogū acted as effigies of people, that manifested some kind of sympathetic magic.[6] For example, it may have been believed that illnesses could be transferred into the dogū, which were then destroyed, clearing the illness, or any other misfortune Dogū are made of clay and are small, typically 10 to 30 cm high.[5] Most of the figurines appear to be modeled as female, and have big eyes, small waists, and wide hips.[1] They are considered by many to be representative of goddesses. Many have large abdomens associated with pregnancy, suggesting that the Jomon considered them mother goddesses.[5] According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, these figurines "suggest an association with fertility and shamanistic rites".[8] The dogū tend to have large faces, small arms and hands and compact bodies. Some appear to wear goggles or have "heart-shaped" faces. Most have marks on the face, chest and shoulders, that suggest tattooing and probable incision with bamboo.
