Saturday Adventure: Phoenix Park. Hank and I drove about 20k north to Phoenix Park, the largest enclosed park in any capital city in Europe. This park is GINORMOUS! It was originally a royal hunting park back in the 1660s and was opened to the public in 1747. We found all kinds of fun treasures during our adventure. Firstly, we stumbled upon a huge cross overlooking a huge’er grass field. Then we came to a beautiful gate with a bunch of flags flying behind it. It took me a good minute to realise what was odd about what I was seeing. These were USA flags! This place is the official residence of the United States Ambassador. After that, we saw Ashtown Castle, which serves as the Phoenix Park visitor centre. Next we discovered the Wellington Monument, Europe’s tallest obelisk. Lastly, we saw Magazine Fort, built in 1611 to protect the city. I’m sure there is a bunch more that we didn’t see so another trip to Phoenix Park is a must. Overall, a great day! #irelandlife #phoenixparkdublin (at Phoenix Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF5er75l-NL/?igshid=1gdhqca04gbk2
