I was revisiting some old photos on my phone, and decided to do this little sketch based on a selfie I took last year, shortly after I finished a body of work including this selfie painting (swipe👉🏼) What’s crazy is seeing how one painting begets a whole new series of paintings! There is a moment for every artist when they start questioning everything about a new body of work... where they go “what am I doing? Is this good? What will people think? This is f$&*ing strange... is this even a good idea?” I’ve slowed down my progress and have been questioning everything lately (mostly because a new painting I’ve started is extremely challenging- it’s really putting me through the ringer and it’s SO hard to paint through that frustration! 😫😂) But in all honesty.... even though there’s moments of self-doubt and frustration, I’ve realized after years of painting that all of this is part of the creative process. Those questions are so integral to pushing yourself to places you haven’t explored before, and it probably means you’re onto something 😏 even if it doesn’t feel like it in the moment! So here’s to sitting in the nitty-gritty of it all!
