My Notes: Have you all read this yet?! Considering that it has over 1,000 kudos, I have a feeling I am the only one late to the party, and omg, what a party it is.
I LOVE THIS FIC. So much. I have no idea why I didn’t read it sooner. It’s an AU, of course, where Sherlock is a chef and John is a photographer. Before I get to discussing John and Sherlock, though, I want to mention that I love the way other characters make cameos - Wilkes, Lestrade, Sally, Molly, Mrs. Hudson - they’re in very different contexts, but still very much themselves.
Now, onto John and Sherlock. They’re PERFECT. This fic is a masterpiece. I love the new take on John’s injuries, and love his immediate attraction to Sherlock - it’s so canon even though it’s happening in a kitchen. John being an exotic travel photographer makes so much sense, too, and I love how the most important parts of his personality are still intact and very much there in a very new and interesting context. And SHERLOCK. He’s perfect. The author did such an amazing job of translating his talents and skills from the consulting detective field to the culinary field. His style of cooking (I don’t want to give spoilers so I’ll be vague) is PERFECT for him, as is the name of his restaurant, the way it looks, EVERYTHING. And his and Sally’s dialogue was PERFECT, and I love the way deductions translate into this universe.
I’m sorry this review is just a gushing mess of effusive joy, and I'm sorry I keep calling everything perfect, but seriously, this fic is so amazing. It presses all the right buttons for me. Its only fault is that it’s not like one million words because I would read John and Sherlock just breathing in this universe because I love it so much. Of course, in reality, though, this fic's shorter length makes it that much more of a gem to treasure!
Anyway, I love many of corpsereviver2’s fics, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The author’s writing style is so lovely; you can really feel the tension between John and Sherlock, and everything feels warm and I absolutely love it so much. I was smiling giddily at the screen for a good part of the time I spent reading this fic.
FYI - the author says that maybe there will be more in this universe someday. Here’s hoping. :)
Also, just a note - I'm tagging this fluff because I felt that special giddy fluff fic feeling after I read it, but it's got a lot of depth to it, too, not that fluff doesn't - it's just, it feels very fluffy because I love it so much so I'm not sure how accurate the tag is - do I have feelings of fluff towards this fic or is it actually fluffy? I'm not sure. But the tag will remain. :)
