Blog #1: Wishing for a Great Radio Reset in 2026
so I have just heard on social media about the great meme reset next year and it made me wonder... why do this on radio? let's face it. Radio in manila is so different nowadays. it is like living in the province now with stations like XFM, Brigada News FM, and others have spreaded all over manila airwaves. same goes to how Niche (aka Brainrot) memes and AI Slop spread social media and dominate and overtook the more creative memes like Ugandan Knuckles, Sanic, Kazoo Kid, etc. but what happens if it applies to the airwaves of Manila radio and also goes to radio outside manila as well? so this would be called a "Great Radio reset" as it will be similar to the meme reset but for a last ditch effort to save what radio is once used to be as listeners who grew up from generations.
so here is a scenario on what it looks like for a "Great Radio Reset".
On January 1st, 2026, we would ditch and abandon the current "newsic" format stations in favor of OG and classic formats in the 2000s and 2010s such as CHR/Top 40, Smooth Jazz, Adult Contemporary, Urban and R&B, and others. as well keeping the elements of classic radio such as English speaking DJs with iconic ones like King DJ Logan, Jimmy Jam, Triggerman, Sam Oh, and others, the entertainingly interactive programs, and the important "More Music, less talk" format of the stations. but there are a few roadblocks up ahead. but do not forget the cornerstone of it all, the Hot AC (or Masa) stations since radio is also for everyone also.
these roadblocks are things like to how the listeners can keep updated to the news and current trending stuff and the traffic updates to stay informed on the go? and others like how can it adopts to the nature of manila's airwaves where "Masa" or Hot AC formats are so popular? well you will know sooner since this is a multi-part blog.
and in this multi-part blog, you will see the scenarios, personal thoughts, and answers if there are any problems with the reset itself.
and of course let me tell you a personal story.
when I was a little kid back in the early to mid 2010s, I listened to 99.5 Play FM (now XFM) at the bedroom. even though the songs are so cool that I got to bed, I even hear their iconic DJs as well. I had so much fun but until things change. nowadays, i listen to RX93.1 or 89.9 to get my daily top 40 fix. and also, I listen to 96.3 Easy Rock (Still surviving and I am an avid fan of the station) and LS 97.1 (still listening until this day) as well! and let's do not forget I am such a big fan when it comes to old and defunct FM stations like 103.5 K-Lite, Mellow 947, WRocK, and my personal favorite... THE GOAT ITSELF, 99.5RT. I would be glad to keep that title.
