The crater edge of the devastating 1888 phreatic eruption of Mt. Bandai-san, Fukushima, Japan, here seen as the steep ridge between Mt. Kushigamine (Ku) and Tengu-iwa (Goblin rock, Te), viewed from the outer side of the crater (upper). Similar to the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption, an enormous amount of landslide blocks from the crater area travelled several kilometers and totally filled up the precedent valley system to form a relatively flat basin with numerous naturally-dammed lakes and ponds including the Hibara-ko Lake (lower)

🇵🇭 Phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano, Philippines (October 13, 2025)
📹 🌋A time-lapse video captured a minor phreatic eruption inside the Taal Volcano crater on the morning of October 13. The steam and ash plume rose more than 800 meters above the crater. Phreatic eruptions occur when underground water comes into contact with hot magma, causing sudden vapor explosions and ash emissions.
