What happens when you try to slam a huge magnet against a super chilled slab of copper?? Not much but you get an awesome clip like this! The cold copper is sitting in a big puddle of liquid nitrogen which causes it to change its magnetic and ductile properties. The reason the big magnet cannot hit it straight on is the Eddy currents act strongly to repel the incoming blow yet allow the magnet to eventually slowdown and touch the copper on the bottom. This is why #physicsrocks Demo done by @rutgersu students at their bi-annual Faraday Lectures event in cooperation with @thatphysicsshownyc Highly recommend and you can still watch the full lecture in our Live feed for a few more hours.
