Any time Dorothy had to be away from home, it felt like an eternity. After visiting her father’s newly assigned church, on the mainland, Dorothy felt like all of the energy had been sapped from her. As much as she would miss her family, she still really disliked being away from Arcadia.
Once she had dropped her belongings at home, she felt like the energy was slowly starting to return, and she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
“Fern... L-Let’s give it our a-all again...”
Her voice was barely above a whisper as she slipped out into the warm summer morning, heading back toward her beloved childhood church. She was certain the other members of the congregation had done a wonderful job looking after it, but there was still that silent worry that she would come back to some sort of disaster.
To top it off, she was still unsure if she was even the right person to be taking over the church, now that her father had been moved to his new location. A priestess who had a hard time with public speaking? It just seemed like a bad fit... And yet, she loved the church and the congregation far too much to walk away.
“A-And Papa is d-depending on us....”
As she stepped through the doors to the church, she felt that familiar calm wash over her and she breathed in deeply, taking a moment to look fondly over her sanctuary.
Yes, this was certainly where she belonged.
Stepping forward through the church, it took Dorothy only a moment to notice someone else was inside the chapel, and she instinctively hugged Fern closer as she stepped toward them.
“G-Good morning... W-What brings you h-here so early?”
