morning after {bttp} » mark&lily
Feeling a low throbbing in her forehead before anything else, Lily woke up with a slight groan. She snuggled into the covers more deeply, willing sleep to overcome her once more and dull the mild hangover. Alcohol was always less fun the morning after. Hazy memories from the night before floated just out of grasp... before coming back to her in a rush that made her eyes snap open, begging to confirm what she had remembered.
Her situation matched her memories. She was in an unfamiliar room, her clothes in a crumpled mess on the floor next to her. The silky sheets caressed her naked skin, and on the opposite side of the bed were thrown back, indicating somebody else had slept there. She remembered his face... his smile and laugh... his muscles... other things that made her face flush with heat...
She kicked back the covers, exposing herself completely, but there was nobody else in the room. Frowning at her clothes from the night before, she realised she would look ridiculous leaving in an evening dress. But it was all she had, so quickly, she dressed. She opened the door to the bedroom and peered round the doorway before exiting.
With any luck, Mark would have left for work or something and she could sneak out undetected, pretending this whole thing had never happened. But as she padded down the hallway, her heels in her hands, she paused in front of the large open doorway to the kitchen, where movement could be heard from within. Their eyes met as he turned from the stove.
There he was, looking as perfect as her drunken mind had remembered him. She had no idea how to act, or what to do. She had never been in this situation before. So she said nothing, her eyes fixed on the floor, waiting for him to speak first.
