sooo I made a transcription of the gorgeous piano solo of golden trunks alex did at maida vale in 2018 (and a lil vid of me playing it (on a steinway!)) for all you who want to try it out

Nothing is more terrifying than slowly trudging through learning a Chopin piece and seeing him write down a section almost identical to the last one but because it's written out and not repeated so it's 'oh god what has this silly bitch done differently now' because it's always gonna be like TWO CHORDS of difference and that's it

This melody reminded me of Arthur, I don't really know why, but it did (sorry if sound is bad)

There is something dangerous and intimidating about it. He is cold, yet there is a good nature in him. He lives for his family and would do anything to see them happy. Even if that means going against the law.

I’m glad you like my playing! I play piano more as a hobby now but I sacrificed a whole lot of time, bud. Thirteen years to be exact.

Okay, so sight reading is kind of out there but it’s pretty fun.

I tend to listen to the song before playing it so I at least get a gist of it first though I already knew how Umi no Mieru went. However, there aren’t a lot of times where you can just sit down and listen to it because you wanna play 👏 music 👏 right 👏 now so I recommend looking at the sheet music thoroughly (key signature, tempo, dynamics, key changes, etc.) just to keep them in mind but obviously you accurately play it just by glancing once and playing it straight through. If you can. Wack.

But, especially if you’re just starting, know basic music theory. Knowing rhythms and notes just like that is what makes sight reading a little easier. 

I usually take liberties with sight reading though since I usually play just for myself and songs that I like. It’s okay to go back and replay a few lines because of a tricky part or slow down at some parts to get the notes right because you’re just sight reading. It’s no sweat. You don’t have to be Chopin the first time you play something.
