Finally got my hands on the Central City Red Racer Across The Nation Collaboration mixed pack - or packs, at least in Ontario, where its split into 6 packs for East & West - and I thought it might be fun to do side-by-side tastings of some of the beers from each pack that are most similar in style. For the first comparison, I pulled out the most hop-forward beers - Restored Hop(e) ESB (collab with Picaroons) vs Left of the Divide IPA (collab with Four Winds). The former starts with strong toffee and barley candy, with sweet orange and grassy hops in the finish, coming across a bit more like a US amber than a UK ESB. The latter has nice stonefruit and citrus character, but feels too clean & safe & reined in - needs more life.
