Hi! I saw the following comment by you on the SceneGraph Plus V2.0 post from back in June:
"For people who do object recolours often, this allows you to skip SimPE shenanigans almost entirely! You can just plop the package with it's mesh in there, connect a few nodes, import your texture, and you have a fully functional recolor in 2 seconds!!
Also, very useful for people who would want to delete recolors from a package that's been merged (so very useful to organize your CC)." I know absolutely nothing about this SceneGraph thing, but your comment sounds very useful/interesting. Would you maybe be interested in posting a short tutorial some time on how to do the things you described here?
Hi anon ✌️
Thanks for the ask, as it gives me an excuse to ramble about @picknmixsims' utilities, which I feel people have been sitting on for a time now. They're more "one task" focused (as opposed to SimPE's "one shoe fits all" approach) but the time they save is nothing in comparison. I encourage anyone to try them out, and read through the documentation provided for each, because there's already a lot being shown in there (sometimes with step-by-step instructions or videos, so you can follow along!).
It might take some time to get used to them, but once you've figured out how to incorporate them into, what I call, the "package preparation stage" (the most boring part of making CC imo), it's such a breeze. For eg. I've recently stopped using Bodyshop for hairs altogether once I've figured out how to automate almost all of the cloning/renaming/importing steps using DBPF Scripter. The resulting "clone" is a much cleaner package, we proper names, proper links, optimized amount of resources, etc. And all of that is done in 2 seconds (not an exaggeration!), 'cause the utility does it for me! It did require some trial and error and some questions to WHoward, to be able to make a working "template", but now that it's done, it's a no brainer. Actually, I need to clean some of that work and share it at some point 🥸
Anyway, back to your questions lmao
SGPlus (SceneGraph Plus) was mainly used to view resource relationships in a node style manner (like the one SimPe's has, except here it also supports CAS items). It was already super useful to relink orphan resources and rename entire chains of them, but since v2 it went even further: you can make and delete recolors directly from it, no longer requiring you to do it through SimPE (it was a whole process). And it supports deleting them to, so if you have -say- a package with all recolors included in one file (either done by you, or the creator), you can select the recolor "chain" (in the node tree) and just delete it. You can preview the texture of the recolor too, so you know which one you are deleting (since most items have wacky names, which it also something SGPlus makes easier to change, therefore -hopefully- encouraging people to do it more often).
This only refers to objects for now, but the latest v2.4 let's you export recolors into separate packages, including some CAS items (the ones which have GZPS resources as their catalog entry, for eg. clothes).
Here's a link to a presentation WHoward did on v2.0 :
The whole "add/delete recolors" process is explained there.
I hope this helps, but ofc feel free to do another ask if you still have questions! 🤗 Alternatively, people are always happy to help at the SimForge discord server too! 😉 And thanks again for the opportunity to ramble lol
