square terrain paint mod for paralives on nexus my beloved

i HATE to ask for any help from anybody, but i'm at a complete loss on how to fix this area circled in red. i deleted the rose and the hanging bit off this dress, but obviously don't want that square cutout there, but i can't seem to find a way to fix it that doesn't end up looking much worse. i don't know much about blender or meshing, sooo... any suggestions? pls and thank you!

A quick reference so the placement of where each face is placed in the mesh vs. the uv map is, with colors. You can see that the split of the skirt's start is inverted vertically.

To make this work, imo you can do it in one of two ways:

OPTION 1: You take the yellow face, join it with the green one, which means rotating it 180° and then flipping it on the X-axis (and rescale). Blender's UV editor has a neat feature called "Stitch". To use this feature, select the yellow face and press Y, this will detach it from the rest of the mapping. Then move it somewhere empty. Then, select the connecting edge between the yellow and green face, and go: UV > Stitch (it should stitch the yellow face by default, if not, use the contextual window (bottom-left corner) and change the "Static Island" option. Then, you need to move the group of faces I circled towards the top, until the yellow face is inside the texture space.

OPTION 2: Same principle but with the green face instead. No need for moving a group of faces in this one though.

In both cases, you'll probably need to smooth out the edges on the mesh afterwards, so the split skirt thingy looks a bit more rounded. :)

did you see the "reviewed" version of the codex LC just posted? my gut reaction is essentially to remain entirely unconvinced and just ignore anything LC releases going forward, since in my mind i basically can't trust that ai won't be involved just because he says so... but it also... seems like steps in the right direction, and maybe i'm just still too raw from the initial drama to be anything besides irked, off-put and unconvinced. idk.

I think you are right in remaining skeptical going forward. This is another aspect of the usage of AI that those who use it do not get: it creates a precedent, and now people (who rather prefer not to engage with it, regardless of the ethics behind it) will forever wonder if that new thing you put out had any degree of AI involved in it, and if so how much, etc… it's not about ethics: people genuinely like to see creatives post about stuff they made, and many have expressed how realizing something is AI just completely negates any sense of admiration they felt in that moment. And I get it: If it's not done by you, then what use does it have being on your page? Might as well give AI self-prompting capabilities, and let it iterate until it fills every niche - it could do it.

As for my personal opinion: I am disappointed, yet not surprised.

Again, what people like LC don't get -or better yet, they pretend not to- is that the issue was never about the quality of the thing that got generated. They rather convince themselves that "There is no ethical consumption under capitalism" - like that somehow negates any responsibility they share in the equation.

In some ways, it's not even that LC used AI that was the issue: it's that they did it, and THEN played the victim by disclaiming right out the gate that if people had any issue with it, they could fuck off (not how they said it, but def. what they said still - again, it's possible to be politely impolite, people can fight me over this if they want). The fact they didn't even acknowledge the elephant in the room, and instead doubled-down and re-released their glorified spreadsheet, is enough proof for me that he cannot be trusted going further.

BUT, anyone is free to disagree, or find me too "judgmental", or put up some nonsensical argument over how "AI is owned by oligarchs" (as if that was somehow helping their argument), or any excuse really - I think it only helps to increase the depth between the two stances on this, which really only boil down to: use it and be evil, or don't use it and be good. 🤷 Many things in life aren't that simple, this is.

So I know there is a debate about the use of AI in the community that I won’t get into but saw that one of its supposed uses was for defaults.

I just wanted to put out there that if anyone has questions, needs troubleshooting, to be walked through the process, or me to look at their files to see if I can spot an issue, I’m really happy to do so. Please, I beg, I know it's hard to reach out, trust me I used to be super shy and constantly checking myself over the smallest thing (I still do it, it never really goes away).

BUT, if you need help, however insignificant you think the issue might be, or just want someone to vent your frustration over some stupid problem: feel free to reach out. I don't always respond the quickest, but I always respond. AND, never assume helping others (you) is a waste of time. I cannot tell you how many things I have learned from helping others. I love figuring stuff out! Sometimes, I might fail at doing so, even.

Human connection is the only true constant in these uncertain times. I know it's a struggle, but it's worth it! AI is the anti-thesis to all that.

i'm afraid we are way past the "ignorant" part though, especially in the case of lordcrumps, and the way he seemingly said "don't care" so easily. well, i do care, and if your going to come here being so easily unbothered, then by all means, take the door.
