Katy explains the process.....It's a multi-stage process to make one - I start with a cardboard tube, shape it with scissors and tape, then add paper mache and let it dry. it's smoothed down with multiple layers of handmade gesso which primes it for the next step. I add decoupage papers, then embellish with acrylic inks in metallic colours to give definition and highlights. Last, I use a natural lacquer and put on several layers (leaving it to dry in between) to create a wonderful long lasting sheen that will pick up the light and give depth to the whole piece.
