Considering Pidgeon's entire aesthetic is based on fancy pigeons, I figured this was appropriate.

[ 🤷♀️ ] how does your muse approach strangers? how does this compare to how they interact with close friends or lovers?
It was past midnight by the time Pidgeon returned to the willow grove. The tree's long hanging branches swaying in a sudden gust of wind as she propelled herself up into the lower branches. After setting up her hammock by the light of the glowing moss on its trunk, she slipped out her bird watching journal and flipped through the last few pages she had filled.
The irony of the fact that she had begun recording her encounters with people as well as birds in the tiny book was not lost on her. Here was a sketch of the bounty hunter who had an existential crisis after refusing to kill a mark and his child. There was the likeness of a rugged hermit who forced himself to visit a bar once a month just to remember how to interact with people. In each encounter she'd been the observer, following the trail of loose threads in their conversations until she had unraveled them to their tender core, their lips loosened by a light application of charm, alcohol, and simple empathy. Not everyone wanted to divulge their haunts to a stranger, of course; but on the balance, she found that people wanted to be seen. They wanted to be known. And Pidgeon wanted to know them.
Flipping the book shut, she lay it against her chest as she stared into the canopy above her, wondering how long this would be enough. It might have continued to suffice for a while longer if it hadn't been for Evangeline, and the night they'd spent together in this grove. Pidgeon had bared her soul to the woman in a way that she hadn't done since leaving her family behind in the mountains, and was reminded what it meant to let herself fall apart in the comfort of another's company. It brought home to her that she'd been avoiding closeness out of the fear of losing it. The fragile construction of her carefully guarded distance came crashing down in the wake of the simple revelation that she missed being held, and seen, and understood, by someone who cared for her.
A breeze stirred the willow branches, bringing with it the chill of autumn. Pidgeon shivered and curled up in her hammock, her journal clutched tightly to her chest. Perhaps it was time for some changes. Fjola was always telling her that Limsa was a nice place to spend the winter.

Pidgeon was no stranger to Ilfent's stall in Hawker's Alley; the accessories the elezen made from seasonal natural materials were one of her favorite occasional treats. But today it wasn't the pink floral arrangements that drew her attention, or even the beaded feather chains. It was that holly leaf hairpin with its soft cream-colored flowers. She couldn't stop thinking about how lovely it would look in a head of red hair.
Flitting from stall to stall, Pidgeon tried to distract herself with the myriad wares Limsa Lominsa had to offer, but her thoughts and gaze kept finding their way back to the pin. She'd been with so many women these past years -- casual amusements after an evening spent chatting at a bar about everything and nothing. No attachments or expectations; no worried objections when she went off on some treacherous errand, no hearts left lonely when she returned to the deep woods. It was better that way. They were fleeting and ephemeral; or maybe Pidgeon was the ephemeral one, a ghost manifesting itself by night for another dance with the living.
Whatever the case, Pidgeon had never thought to buy a gift for any of the women she'd bedded. What was it that made Lorh different? Was being on sabbatical in Limsa relaxing her defenses? Or was she simply changing with the seasons, shedding her old habits like a spent skin? The questions vexed her -- or they should have vexed her, but she couldn't stop imagining how the sailor would react if Pidgeon gave her the pin; how she might handle it gingerly in her slender fingers, the way she'd handled Pidgeon's combs like they were a precious treasure. The thought filled her with an intoxicating warmth and ushered away every misgiving.
When she broke out of her thoughtful reverie, Pidgeon realized she was back in front of the holly hairpin again. Standing behind it with a look of mild exasperation was Ilfent, catching the Veena's eye as he leaned toward her across the stall. "I'll give you a twenty percent discount on it if you'll stop blocking my booth," he said in a low voice.
"Well, then... Who am I to deny providence?" Pidgeon replied with a wry smile, rummaging for her coin purse.
