Absolutely enamored by the new piecesverse! I love your world building so much and seeing Sasha have such a good day made me so happy! If you don’t mind I would love to hear more about the student/foster program, if not that’s totally cool! :)

basically, around the time of Sasha's adoption, they are finishing up the renovations started after jospehines death (logan briefly mentions this in the fourth chapter of Kintsukuroi). these renovations converted one entire wing (there are three wings, East West and North, plus the central area of the manor) and part of the central areas into essentially a school/homeless shelter, primarily for queer youth but not limited to them.

This includes both non-noble and noble youth (who are often thrown out for being queer or otherwise disobedient), which logan gets away with by framing it as politically educational (and lowkey implying to adult nobility that its some kind of reeducation deal)

They do have services for homeless adults, but theyre more about rent assistance and such to help them find long-term housing elsewhere, and other such things. Janus and Logan (this whole deal is mostly their brain baby) "own" a couple dozen apartment complexes for this purpose, which are all run democratically by their respective tenants unions. by setting the example, this has led to a LOT of tenants unions in Kenningport, which is great because logan inherited a SERIOUS housing crisis

But the teenagers stay in the manor, and they get regular meals (plus unrestricted access to multiple public kitchens, (though theres almost always a cook or maid in the big one to help them out), options for single or communal dorm space, and a great education with lots of specialty options. they also get an allowance (logan insists on calling it a stipend but the teens call it an allowance among themselves, mostly because it annoys him)

And they have access to legal services, whether that be court costs for either getting custody switched to a foster parent or getting emancipated entirely. most of them just stay, but some of them do choose to be placed with foster families/eventually adopted

that in particular harder for the noble kids, and logan and Janus have to deal with those cases personally - it involves a lot of very careful political machinations, letter correspondence, and occasionally outright subterfuge to get their parents to fully give up custody of the kid, and sometimes they cant manage it without showing their hand and risk the parents showing up and retaking the kid by force.

they always makes sure the kids are aware of the process so they have a choice, but most of them just choose to stay and keep the status quo - safer than making waves and risk having to go back to their unsafe homes.

Reviving this sideblog for a hot sec because pieces verse Logan is The Best Boy and every time @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors writes anything I scream, but this scene from Chipped Tea Sets? Incredible. Showstopping. 10/10.

Vibes wise, think alfred pennyworth if he was like, older brother age to bruce wayne as opposed to father age, on the surface, very concerned with propriety. just under the surface, dedicated to roasting his charge as well as fondly making sure he doesnt burn out in a ditch

Pip's proper name is Philip Mills, and he was given the nickname by a young Roman who couldn't pronounce it. He was made Logan's Valet when Logan was thirteen and entered society as his parent's heir, and Pip was nineteen. before that, Pip was the primary footmen for the nursery, and before that he was the hall boy, which means he was in charge of cleaning the shoes. (yes, i do mean as a child - child labor laws? not a thing)

So he was not close enough in age to really be a playmate, but he still grew up alongside the Fitzboys. He doesn't quite feel guilty about it, but a little bit melancholy about the fact that he never managed to be their friend sooner.

he's considered Logan his friend for many years before the events of A Piece of the Sky, But while Logan liked him, he was never sure what was genuine pleasure of logan's company and what was the fact that Pip was being paid to be there. post-CTS, they start to hang out outside of work hours.

Please tell me that Patton and Logan eventually have a vow renewal ceremony like how Janus and Remus had a second wedding; Patton's sadness at their stiff, drab wedding broke my heart

by popular demand yes, though it will probably be a while because i have a sort of.... miniseries almost, of which Trimming the Excess is the first, but a whole collection of fics about the Healing Process, and i have a few i'd like to get to before that one!

Hey! Sorry to pester you, but what does everyone look like in pieces? I know the Fitzroy siblings have red hair and green eyes but that's it as far as I know

heres a height chart!

The Fitzroy siblings all look incredibly similar - obviously the twins being identical, but Logan also resembles them closely, being a bit taller and skinnier and with glasses. In future installments they will branch out a little more, with Roman growing their hair out, Remus no longer shaving his facial hair, and Logan dressed a little less fancy and a little more academic, but currently theyre are still too used to their parents enforced conformity making them all look quite close to identical

Janus is blonde, with light brown eyes, pretty pale - he’s short but not tiny or slight, he’s got a pretty average build.

Patton has brown curly hair and blue eyes, he’s also Thicc Boy and Fucking Stacked from lifting huge sacks of flour and kneading dough. Short bear Patton is basically what i’m saying.

Virgil is black, with very dark skin, hair texture ive been picturing around 4a but he normally wears it in cornrows which end about halfway between his chin and his shoulders. he’s also gnc and when not under pressure from bitchroys and trying to keep them from targetting Roman he wears skirts more often than he does pants

I just read the most recent chapter of chipped tea sets and I’m a lil worried about Logan? Is he okay? I sense something happening here because he responded weirdly to roman’s coming out. I sincerely doubt Logan is a secret transphobe so it must be something else. I’m not sure if it was just a response to confusing emotions, plot set up, or specifically a hint that Remus is the only cis brother left, but I’m interested to see.

Ps. “Congrats on the gender” may be one of my favourite responses to a coming out, thank you for that.

Remember how Remus said he and his brother have rarely, if ever successfully kept a secret from Logan? Especially an important one?

Think about what life was like before Patton showed up - especially after their nanny was fired. The three of them had literally nobody except each other, completely alone against seemingly an entire world of constant hostility.

Who do you think Roman and Remus went to when they were upset? When they were afraid, or hurt, or anxious or anything? It’s always been Logan. Logan has always been the one keeping them safe, as much as he could. He has always been the person who chases the monsters away.

And Roman was scared, and they went to someone else.

Logan, who has rested a significant portion his Literal Identity on being The Person Who Protects His Brothers, was BARELY managing to stop himself from bursting into tears in that scene. He feels useless, completely superfluous. He feels like Virgil and Janus have replaced him.

Roman needed help, he need to be protected and feel safe and comforted, and he went to someone who was not Logan. Logan wasn’t even their second choice.

Literally the only reason Logan managed not to cry was a well practiced ability to make his own emotions secondary to his siblings’ and not wanting to make something that was so clearly important to Roman about himself.

So yeah. Logan’s pretty fucked up right now.

I'm IMMENSELY glad that Logan got the leverage to throw the remaining Bitchroy out, but, looking at Remus and Janus, why when something happens is it always yOU TWO. I feel like someone else is gonna snap before they do and just make them have a Civil Goddamned Conversation where they Talk about their Actual Feelings.
