Di4ri's rant
My life is currently being consumed by Di4ri on Netflix so I needed to make a post about it.
I finished season 2 yesterday and am currently rewatching season one - I am a Pietro and Isabel truther and let me tell you why:
I went into this show completely blind with no background information, not knowing what the show was about or what would happen. I just knew I had it on my list forever and it looked cute. Which it is! I love its set up and the characters are so loveable.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Pietro and Livia got back together at the end of season two. It honestly just seemed like character regression and I do not think they are good for each other.
One of the reasons that I like Pietro and Isa so much is the fact that they bond over a shared interest and before they're boyfriend and girlfriend they're best friends. They support each other, they know each other's strengths and weaknesses, and most importantly they hear each other out and just overall get along. Even when they don't agree on something, there's no back and forth there's no arguing, they are overall a healthy relationship.
Which is why his going back to Livia pissed me off. They are the opposite of that, they have next to nothing in common, all they have is these general ideas of each other's behavior and personalities, and the circumstances of both times they've gotten together have been less than ideal. The first time Livia was with Matteo and Pietro - even if he liked her - only went after her because of a bet, the second time Pietro was with Isabel and Livia went after him.
Even though we see the show from everyone's side we mostly see it through Pietro's POV and in my opinion, the difference between how he sees Livia and Isabel stood out to me from season one. He saw Livia as this kind of snobby good girl that he held on a pedestal and even though he saw Isa as kind of a know-it-all, throughout the show, his thoughts jumped to her when thinking of someone you admire, trust, and can depend on.
I personally saw something between Pietro and Isabel from season one episode one. His eyes naturally went to her, anytime she (or anyone else) scored a basket he ran to her. Those two were always circling each other. Anytime she's around its "I knew Isa could do this" or "classic Isabel" or something cute. It felt like a crush that you didn't even know you had - which is why it made so much sense when and how they got together in season two.
In Season Two, Livia tried to kiss him and he turned away, he wasn't even with Isa at that point either. He said that being with Isabel made him forget about Livia but now he's in the relationship and happy the feelings are suddenly back? I don't buy it. Pietro is just someone who thrives in chaos. He enjoys feeling restless, even though he hates change - he likes things happening. Being with Isa was calm, he even said it was perfect. I think that his going back to Livia and getting those conflicting feelings was him getting scared and anxious about the feelings that he had with Isabel and choosing the safe option. I also think his parents fucked up how he views love so he chose someone closer to what his parent's relationship is like but that's neither here nor there.
There were so many moments between Pietro and Isa that didn't happen with Livia. The heartbeating sound effect that was only used with Pietro and Isa, the fact that his jersey number at Marina Grande is 5 (Isabel's number) instead of 24. She's the only girl who he actually cried for in the show. They had such good chemistry the fact that Livia and Pietro ended up together after all that just drove me up a wall.
This is why I can't watch these middle school shows because I'm TOOOO invested. Should have learned my lesson with Andi Mack and HSMTMTS.
Anyways if there is no season 3 - the last episode of season 2 simply didn't happen. I've suffered enough.
