a wild party of gorse shield bugs (Piezodorus lituratus), friendly and very pretty pentatomids who, in spite of their almost boringly descriptive common name, i actually rarely find on gorse. this crew was resting between two oak leaves and not very disturbed by my presence, and in fact they liked their little spot so much that i kept finding them there again and again over the course of a few days

Gyvelbredtæge (Piezodorus lituratus)

Sene, voksne individer i artens mørke vinterdragt samt to nymfer på forskelligt udviklingstrin. Alle fundet samme dag på samme lokalitet.

Gyvelbredtægen overvintrer som imago, i løvet under foderplanten, typisk gyvel (Cytisus scoparius), og når dyrene kommer frem igen til april, skifter de farve til ensfarvet grøn eller gulgrøn.

Late, imago specimen with the species’s winter colouring and two different instar. All found on the same day in the same location.

The Gorse Shieldbug winter as imago between leaves and twigs under the food plant, often Broom (Cytisus scoparius), and when the animals re-emerge in April, they change to a more uniform green or yellow-green colour.

i wasn't exaggerating the magnitude of the Piezodorus lituratus party i previously mentioned - two weeks had passed but the trio seen here is the same, cozied up between the same two leaves, seemingly doing the same amount of nothing in there. i can't imagine the weather made them want to leave, late summer also gives me the urge to get in a bunker
