Rembrandt painted this portrait of his younger half brother, Jeb, as a means of encouragement to his wayward little sibling. Jeb was known throughout Amsterdam as a "jabber guy," one who flung grog and glug alike, and was often seen ripping his britches behind lowly pig pubs with moderate aplomb. This painting is considered one of Rembrandt's finest, known colloquially as the "Mona Lisa of Amsterdam." #arthistory#rembrandt #rembrandthouse#jeb#monalisa#amsterdam#pigpup#jabberguy#glug#grog#drunk (at Museum Het Rembrandthuis)
