“I kind of let my temper get the best of me.” A shoulder shrugged, hoping his vague answer would satiate her curiosity.

She’d just been in the park, reading, when she’d first noticed it. Helga was alone. No sign of parents anywhere, or friends... nothing. This girl, clad in pink with blonde hair and a big pink bow to match, couldn’t have been much older than Melvin if Raven were to guess. Now, it wasn’t any of Raven’s business. What should she care if some girl was on her own? Since she’d met Melvin, Timmy, and Teether, though, she’d gained an appreciation for kids she hadn’t had before. So, after setting aside her book, she’d pursued the matter.

“Hey.” Raven didn’t feel the need to say much more than that at first. She’d gotten up and approached. Here was hoping the blue cloak she always wore and her face being partially shadowed by her hood didn’t immediately give Helga the ‘creepy’ vibe that it gave everyone else.

“Do you often hang around here by yourself?” Raven couldn’t remember seeing Helga around there before then. Then again, she and the other Titans usually were busy. Of course she wouldn’t have noticed.

The annoyance he was feeling did not subside as she responded in typical Helga-fashion. Though, it wasn’t directed at what she was saying or the way she was saying it. He, of course was used to that. Especially coming from her. Instead, his frustration was based on her insistence that she’d be better off alone. “Why do always have to be like that? You always try to shove people away when they try to be your friend. Why do you always have to do that?”

It was less about him not wanting to be her friend than it was her not wanting him to be her friend. Or that’s how it seemed to him.

In one calm, smooth motion he moved her finger away from his chest then gestured to the space around them.

“There isn’t exactly a line of people waiting for you to talk to them.” He shrugged. “You’re either stuck talking to me or stuck holding it in and letting it chip away at you.”

He dropped his hand back down.

“If you choose to hold it in, then at least I can say I tried.”
