The Chernobyl New Year Challenge 2021

Comrades! Is it that time of the year when we’re full of hope and dreams and, most importantly, full of headcanons and creative ideas??

YES IT IS.

Novy god. It is upon us. So gather round. Build a fire. Bring  your marshmallows, tangerines, your Chernobyl ships, your art and stories, cookies and milk. Make the end of 2020 count. No, not that 2020, the 2020 that brought us all together in sickness and in health.  “In love, in fear, in hate, in tears, sit down”... and create. Any Chernobyl pairing is welcome, from HBO’s “Chernobyl” to the real Chernobyl, and the theme is “New Year's Day”.  And guess what, if you're not into pairings, you can  still create for this challenge! You can post your creation on tumblr, twitter, instagram, deviantART, pinterest or any social media you choose as long as you tag it with #chernobyl new year challenge 2021

It doesn’t take much. It could be anything. These are just suggestions to get your creative juices flowing but feel free to contribute with your own ideas, media and materials. Your creation(s) could be anything from

Boris Accepts His Fate

Boris Shcherbina (Stellan Skarsgård) is one of the government men put in charge of the recovery effort following the initial incident at Chernobyl. He knows his place and knows not to make waves. But as the extent of the situation is revealed to him, he realizes this cannot be swept under the rug.

Boris' turning point comes when he realizes that by simply being in Chernobyl, he has been exposed to radiation that will lead to his death in a matter of years. Instead of wallowing in grief, Boris accepts this outcome and continues to work so he may help save as many lives as he can.

General Pikalov Takes A Reading

When the officials arrive in Chernobyl to inspect the extent of the situation, they find that the radiation levels that are being reported are not accurate. They need to use high-range dosimeters to get a true reading. However, they will need one of the military officials to take the reading themselves.

Valery Legasov (Jared Harris) warns that even with numerous safety precautions, the man chosen for this job will be in grave danger. Immediately, General Vladimir Pikalov volunteers to do it himself rather than send one of his men.

Oh. My. God.

I  found actual footage of Pavel’s deleted scene where he smokes and greets the newcomer. It was in the interviews at the end of ep 4.

I also found alternate angles/takes of the Pikalov/Glukhov scene. In the unused take Pikalov isn’t holding back the soldier but he’s pushing Glukhov. I mean... yeah, dude, don’t push Glukhov.

(Btw if you can’t be as sexy as Boris, as brilliant as Valery, as ruthless as Charkov, as witty as Glukhov, as adorable as Toptunov, as supportive as Akimov, as iron-willed as Ulana, as compassionate as Pavel, as protective as Bacho, as funny as Garo, as patriotic as Shchadov, as professional as Sitnikov, as lovestruck as Dmitri, as devoted as Lyudmilla, as self-sacrificing as Vasily, as persistent as Tarakanov, you can AT LEAST be Pikalov,  putting yourself in the line of fire without second thoughts).

Nobody seems to know who “that anon” is. The angsty prompt I mean that was sent to at least two people. But now we know that someone got inspired by that prompt, and it’s a fact: sometimes you don’t get to see the content you want, so you have to make it yourself.
