新年快乐，朋友！🐷

Currently studying some mandarin before class :) We've moved on from school subjects and places, and are currently learning how to tell time and talk about your timetable. It interesting as always, even though there's a lot to learn ✨ We've also talked about 春节 in class and my uni is organising some festivities including a gala with performers today and a festival on Sunday where I'm actually volunteering!

We've also received information about a Summer Programme at Wuhan University, and its sounds like an absolute amazing opportunity. It's 18 days long and a mix of language learning and cultural activities... I'm quite set on going, I think it would improve my Mandarin a lot ✨

🍊 EXAM REVISION // 中文

i have my first ever mandarin exam tomorrow, and I'm quite excited!! it's one reading comprehension/translation part and a writing part.. the first part is quite easy so I've looked over some past exams and practised... i've been practising the writing part so i know how approx how much 120-150 characters is and it's quite doable!! If someone would be kind and look over my text (a letter) it would be great!! we're given the intro and endings, so we just write the content:

我是江映月。我是北京人和住在香港。我二十岁。我的生日是九月二十二日。我家有五口人。他们是妈妈爸爸两个哥哥和我。我的爸爸不工作。我的妈妈是因生和我的哥哥都是老师。我不工作因为我是大学生。我会说中文英文韩文和日文。我的哥哥都不说韩文。我也有宠物。我有三只狗一只猫和十条鱼。我喜欢小猫因为很可爱。

Pile of Mandarins 🍊 Productivity Challenge [4/100]

Today we did colours in class!! It was quite interesting and ties in nicely with doing physical descriptions as well :) now I know how to say what colours I like and that my eyes are brown, yay!! I made a small Quizlet set, good to have all vocab in one place. I also rewrote my notes (with the words written out in Korean too so I could practise that as well). Tomorrow we don't have classes so I'll probably do some sample sentences and practise all the vocab together :)

Let’s try this again!

I had my first class of mandarin today, and I’m really excited for this term!! We got a brief introduction from our teacher of how the term and assessments will look like and then we started learning about physical descriptions. It took me a lil bit to get used to my teacher speaking mandarin, because I haven’t heard it for a month :’)

Now I’ve gone over the vocab from this class and I even made a quizlet set! Soon I’ll make dinner and then head off to my first Taekwondo class for the term (time to start moving after eating all of Christmas break hehe)

Pile of Mandarins update 🍊

Sooo surprisingly I've gotten a string of new followers in the past few weeks and that's motivated me to continue on more seriously with this blog!! Thank you to everyone who's followed me ❤️

I start my first Mandarin class of the term tomorrow and I'm really excited! I also feel more comfortable because now I know my teachers, peers and how the course works :)

Also another funny thing happened: I got really surprised bc I watched an interview with Mark Tuan in Mandarin and I understood small (very small) bits! It wasnt a lot but I definitely understood more than I would've had a year ago hehe

I'm thinking of continuing the 100 days of productivity since my term is roughly that long (without our exam period) and maybe write a bit about my study techniques, fun stuff that's happened in class and maybe vocab lists of what we're learning in class?

Pile of Mandarins 🍊 productivity challenge - [1/100]

So I reviewed a bit of old stuff and what we did in class today, which was mostly greetings and how to respond to them which is v good to know!! We have finally started to learn more characters and it's So Much Fun learning how to write them, although mine are not looking the best rn :') but I'll get there!! Anyways, I have three more classes this week, so this is what we'll continue with including how to introduce oneself.

I also did a quick session on the app Hello Chinese! The lessons are basically reviews of what were doing in class and the format looks really cute and there's videos of people pronouncing the words which I found really helpful :) I'll post a new entry tomorrow, I'm adamant on finishing this challenge!!! Pile of Mandarins 🍊 productivity challenge [2/100]

I was quite tired after school today so I took a nap and went grocery shopping, made some yummy dinner (Thai stir-fry with quorn nuggets) and did mandarin after dinner!

Today I focused more on learning how to write the characters I've been learning, which was really needed. My saviour is Pleco, I love that app so much, it works So Well together with my Pinyin keyboard and it really helps in my studies!!! After studying I feel like I have a better grasp of the stroke order and what the characters look like. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, but I'll definitely squeeze in some mandarin!

Beginner Mandarin Question | 中文

When someone asks:

你家有几口人？

Can I respond with:

我家有四口人。我家有妈妈爸爸妹妹和我。

Does it sounds awkward to say ‘我家有’ twice? Or should the second sentence only have 我有?

I appreciate any help! 谢谢！
