FWIW, I live in Florida and as far as I can recall I've only met one person from here who uses drugs, and I haven't even actually met them in real life. TBF I'm not super social, though, and I've met a few other people who I either knew to have used drugs in the past and gotten rehabbed or who I suspected of using drugs.
Thanks for the data point Nony! Moving a good distance away is a pretty standard tool for addiction recovery, so there's probably a selection bias for "young people who move cross country for non college or romantic reasons" to be disproportionately trying to get sober, to be fair to Florida.
OTOH, Florida pill mills fueled the national prescription opioid crisis, and the impact locally was not minor either, to be fair to Florida and the people that their lax laws killed while making a buck for the Florida economy.
