Autumn in Iowa . . . by Paul D. Sorensen Via Flickr: Pilot Knob State Park At 1,450 ft. above sea level with an early Monday morning sun, this is about as dry as Iowa can get! Taken from the tower, I'm about 250 ft above the surrounding countryside looking north. However, I find the earthy colors and patterns to be exciting... there is an intriguing visual "simplicity" to this rural quilt. Copyright 2012 ( Nice on black ) - unedited

Pilot Knob
“When Colonel Boone with his associates had mounted the most commanding position of Kentucky and viewed the numerous herds of Buffaloe, Elk and Deer on the plains below, he observed to his comrades to ‘behold!’, claiming the whole as their own, at the same time exclaiming, ‘We are as rich as Boaz of old, having the cattle of a thousand hills.’”
