Full Sun - Shattering Silence by Jason Mrachina Via Flickr: This photo was taken just south of the Capitol Building in Des Moines looking west towards the city. The name of the sculpture is "Shattering Silence" by James Ellwanger. This is located on the Iowa State Judicial Building property. “Shattering Silence” overlooks the Des Moines skyline from the top of the hill at the Iowa Supreme Court building to remind visitors of the state’s long history of upholding civil rights. Walking Bridge - Gray's Lake Park ~EXPLORE 12/20/2009 by Don McLaughlin Via Flickr: I went to Gray's Lake early Saturday and took some photos of the walking bridge while it was lighted. Saturday morning was cold, and windy with a freezing mist. Funny, I didn't notice the cold until after I took these photos! grace under pressure....(Explored) by Bill Via Flickr: I can't put the abandoned tag on this crumbling mansion in the rolling hills of Iowa.An old gentleman still lives on the bottom floor,so one can only imagine what the interior of this once stately mansion looks like.The weather has a free pass upstairs,and the brick around the entrances is in some serious need of mortar work-years ago.He was kind of enough to allow us to shoot the house's exterior,but pretty tight-lipped about the future of the house. It has to be pretty sad though,living in a place of such former beauty,while literally the walls crumble around you.... Stavanger Lutheran, Ossian, Iowa by Charlie Coffey Via Flickr: The church was gracious to stage itself for me by turning on all the lights inside the church so I could get a night shot showing off all its beautiful stained glass windows. Here is a link to their website. It has some old photos going back a long way. Link: stavangerchurch.com/who-we-are/history-of-stavanger/ The history of Stavanger Evangelical Lutheran Church dates back to 1872 when it was part of the Kongsberg Congregation. In 1886, twenty four members organized the Stavanger Congregation. Services were held in homes until the church was built in 1893 at a cost of $1,500.00. I spent two hours photographing the church last Thursday night. It was 25 degrees F outside with some gusts. Nothing like an aluminum tripode sucking the warmth out of your hands. Thanks in advance for taking your time to view my photos. I enjoy reading any comments you may choose to leave.

Des Moines at Night! by Jason Mrachina Via Flickr: The city of Des Moines Iowa at twilight from my favorite spot. Press "L" - it looks nicer... I really like watching a city "go to sleep". The sky gets ever darker, the street lights come on, then the buildings start lighting up. One of the most iconic aspects of Des Moines is the "Traveler's" Umbrella. Chinese Pagoda - Des Moines by Jason Mrachina Via Flickr: One of the more unique sights in the city of Des Moines is the Chinese Cultural Center's Riverfront Garden. It's easy to find as it's at the end of the pedestrian bridge across from Wells Fargo Arena. You can't miss the giant red pagoda. This garden was created by the CCCA to promote closer cultural and trade relationships between America and China/Pacific-rim Asia. It's a great location for portrait sessions or regular photography along the river.
