He's an iconic actor now. He wasn't at the time--and his first big role, that he probably thought was his chance to become a successful actor, ended up being one where he spoke in monosyllables and got killed off. So yes, he eventually succeeded despite it, but the badly written and racist way his character on GoT was handled held back his career for quite a while.

Speaking of Leo (the creepy ass motherfucker), but I remember how everyone fawned over him when he won his oscar. Saying a vegetarian like him eating meat should alone make him deserve that award. Is that honest god the extent of what white folks has to do to be considered "amazing"?

Let me speak for my autistic self: you know what I do when I find myself starting to hyperfixate on something racist, transphobic, homophobic, nationalist, or whatever? I ignore it. Pointedly. It takes discipline and work and effort, and it's something you should absolutely do. Hyperfixations come and go; you'll find something new to latch onto soon, especially if you start searching. Stop using your disability as a shield for your racism.

Also hyperfixations aren't random. If you find yourself constantly drawn to racist shit, maybe it's time to sit down and start examining yourself. And I don't mean this unkindly, but autistic positivity stops and ends where it hurts another. You cannot claim in one breath that you love your autism and then in the next that it "forces" you to be racist.

hi! i just read your post about fans placing celebrities on pedestals, and i agree! i got curious when i read your tags tho, would you mind talking abt why you don’t like jb? it’s okay if you don’t wanna answer, that’s totally fine. i was just curious bc it seems like he’s widely loved, so seeing a different pov is interesting

once, samuel l jackson (one of the first black jedis???? the irony) critiqued peele’s get out and pretty much suggested how get out could’ve played out differently in terms of emotional range and/or story if a black american had been cast instead of a black british guy. he never said daniel wasnt black. he never said the movie or acting was bad. he only suggested something. and basically jb got up in arms about it and really acted out on twitter and that was a huge turn off for me. but its not the first time he’s done that, he tends to always react that way when those types of topics come up, which i find a little odd and questionable. as someone who has one american parent and one foreign parent, i think they’re pretty valid critiques but jb always seems to get hot and bothered by it for some reason and it rubs me the wrong way because he really does act like he has a chip on his shoulder or some superiority complex when it comes to his acting career in american media vs british.

i personally, think its valid cus racism can be very different depending on the region in which someone grows up in. again, samuel didnt say a thing out of pocket but both jb and daniel skewered it into something it wasnt. i dont think jb is a bad person or anything, i just think the way he reacts to things shows he’s set in his ways and not really a nuanced guy and would invalidate people’s differences when it comes to experiences.

For the Hispanic ask, first where are they from like which country, what generation are they (eg are they an immigrant or are there parents immigrants, etc), do they live in the US or another country. I think biggest disclaimer is typically hispanic/Latinas are displayed as mean, overly sexual or poor (sometimes all of the above) so I'd try to steer clear from that. Typically latin American men or masculine aligned people are portrayed as aloof or uncaring which is a negative stereotype which is often tied to being a criminal. Best advice is researching and picking a cultural background so you can narrow it down.

(2/2) Continuation of the Hispanic ask, also Hispanic doesn't automatically equal person of colour so first you should figure out whether they'd be Afro-latina, brown or a white latina. They can also be of Asian descent keep that in mind as well. Hispanic just means you're from a Spanish speaking former colony. Another to keep in mind is religion since that can change depending on country. While most of Latin America is heavily catholic/Christian that doesn't mean they have to be, they can belong to another religion.

To this day I still see complaints about how Black Panther was “mediocre” or “overhyped,” one main reason being that “T’challa doesn’t get enough character development.” I though this development was pretty average for an entry MCU movie with the exception of Thor, so I wonder if this complain is ACTUALLY due to a lack of empathy and relatability people feel towards black characters (similar to ppl ignoring Finn's traumasto hyper focus on Kylo,s 100% invented trauma)

yeah, i think you hit it right on the nose with that one. just look at all the love and praise loki can be showered with when we know just about as much with him as we do t’challa (past, motivations, experiences, etc). i don’t think there’s ever enough that black characters can go through for people to see their growth and i’ve seen it first hand with every fandom i’ve been in. even your comparison with kylo and finn is a perfect example. i think t’challa’s character development went pretty smooth considering that he also made some earlier appearances in civil war...but hey. what can you do? 

i will say however, in retrospect, i’m not as in love with BP as I used to be. will always be an iconic film though.

I know nothing bout kpop but you should post your thinkpiece because a lot of kpop idols (rap monster from bts) are just so antiblack and their fans..ignore it??

i dont listen to bts either cus i personally don’t think they’re talented (kpop has devolved over the years imo) but isnt rap monster the funny-looking one who thinks he’s cultured because he used to watch friends with his mom or w/e lol.

there's so much evidence of him and other bts members being antiblack it's kinda laughable at this point. i literally sit and cackle sometimes because anti-blackness in kpop is not surprising to any black fan on earth. the constant excuse is that “omg oppa/unnie didn't know better uwu" is getting old, like, no, your fave knows what they're doing and they’ve been taught (like the majority of the people in their respective culture, hence why so many of them keep doing it) that anti-blackness is acceptable and a way to thrive. and the only reason it's okay with fans is clearly because they've ALSO been taught that there's nothing wrong with it. so, all the kpop stans who cosign on it can trip and fall for all i care.
