Shout out to the customers who actually read the sign I put on the pin pad that said “pen broken use finger”.

Not that it should take rocket science to read that. But it just felt so nice to see a decent amount of my customers today actually pay attention to the sign and use their finger instead of complaining the pen doesn't work when there's a paper that says so right in front of their faces.

Does anyone else have issues with customers picking up a pen to try and use on a touchscreen card reader that clearly doesn't have a stylist? At my store we have pens at the register a la bank style (chained) to be used when something has to be signed, but the number of people who try to use it as a stylist on the POS screen is getting beyond ridiculous. I mean, I have this sitting on)/my/ side of the counter for a reason! Don't snatch it and try to use it as something it clearly isn't!!

Same! Not that we have a lot of pens in my store (pens are a commodity just like paper towers so sometimes we’re lucky if even one register has one) but sometimes the amount of people who I’ve seen try to use pens is insane.

I remember this one customer actually dug through her purse to find a pen to use for the pin pad touch screen because of course, I got the register with no stylus. And it didn’t matter that I taped a little sign saying “NO PEN, USE FINGER” (which how many people didn’t read anyway) or that I told her “you have to use your finger”. She REFUSED to use her finger to touch the screen because of how many people touch it every day so it HAS to be the filthiest, germiest thing in the store. And she proceeded to get mad when her pen wasn’t working on the screen. Gee, I wonder why! Needless to say she eventually gave in and touched the damn screen, but put so much hand sanitizer on her hands afterwards I thought she was going to use the whole thing.

Common sense hasn’t left the building, it doesn’t even enter it anymore. -_-;

Would you violently jab at a stranger's smartphones touch screen if it didn't respond the first try? No. SO DON'T DO IT TO THE PIN PAD AT THE STORE. It costs A LOT more to replace the PIN pad than a smartphone...
