So back in the 80s and 90s when TNG was on the air, touch screen tech wasn't really a thing. It existed but wasn't in common use so it seemed really futuristic to have the entire shit decked out in it. Now touch screens are everywhere and we're all familiar with them. We've all learned that touch screens are an incredibly clunky and accident prone thing. Tactile buttons are a necessity in any control operations because when they're not accidents happen. Both science fiction and the real world need to go back to physical buttons. Touch screen is no longer the future. It's here and it sucks. Give me buttons damn it!
