Day 92
Kata tonight. We started off with basic foot work of Taigo 1. Then drilled Pinan 1 a dozen times. I'm feeling more confident for my rank test Friday after tonight. I feel ready with Kata at least. I'll drill Kata and the other areas I need to make sure I've got covered tomorrow and Friday building up to the test that night.
Day 84
Private Lesson: Had a great private lesson with Sensei this morning. Drilling kata and tweaking things. Taigo 1 (just footwork), Taigo 2, Taigo 3, Pinan 1 and Bo 1. Hard work and had some great conversation to start the day as well.
A running theme for me is "Calamity springs from carelessness" though. I felt like I was taking the session seriously but I made some pretty carless mistakes that would have cost me dearly in a rank test.
I'll continue to drill these kata on my own then schedule two other private lessons as we get closer to rank test so I make sure i'm doing things correctly and working on focus.
Day 82
Private Lesson: Another great private lesson. A full our of drilling and learning Pinan 1. The final throws are difficult and require good stances, I need more work but I feel like i'm finally figuring out how to store these Kata in my brain finally. It's funny how simple movements are difficult to attempt to do perfectly.
Day 81
Private Lesson: Had an hour long lesson on Pinan 1 this morning at 9:00 am. It was great to have the focus and quiet of the Dojo all to myself. Frank Sinatra blaring on the speakers and just a solid hour of learning and drilling a single Kata.
Day 64
Got back into Boken today for the first time in almost a month. I LOVE Boken. It's also super fun when you work with a partner.
Class tonight was Kata we worked Taigo 1, Taigo 2 and some Taigo 3 then drilled Cat Stance (Necko Ashi Dashi) and kicks into Front Stance (Zenkustu Dachi). It felt really great tonight and I felt like I was in good form and mood for Kata finally.
Then I went for a 2 mile in 24 minute run to top off tonight's training.
