These specimens are named for their distinctive pineapple-like shape, formed by the replacement of a spiky, radiating mineral structure.

So I made an interesting discovery last week when I was moving files to my new laptop. Apparently I had older versions of my Fire and CG fusions, even older than the concept art I featured on my behind the scenes posts. I completely forgot about these LOL. I think they were all drawn 2016 - early 2017. I didn’t realize I originally wanted Garnet and Fire’s fusion to be a bismuth!

I thought it would be cool to have a side by side comparison so here you go. : D

Fire Agate and Garnet (Ruby and Sapphire) make Pineapple Opal (a.k.a Ikaite)

Finally she’s done! The third installment of my Fire Agate and canon gem fusion series is Pineapple Opal (or Ikaite)! While I didn’t  plan to release this during October, I can’t help but feel the design is fitting for Halloween.

Pineapple Opal, prefers to go by Ikaite, is a rarely seen but dangerous fusion. She is always at conflict with herself. As both Fire Agate and Garnet are leaders and always want to take control of situations, they constantly compete for control over their fusion. Because of this, Ikaite has trouble with body coordination and speaking. And while she doesn’t have a distinct personality (often displaying the separate personalities of her fusees), Ikaite twists their characteristics negatively. She is incapable of moving from the past and digs up old grudges from both fusees, especially from the war. Combined with their history and Fire Agate’s disdain for the Crystal Gems fuels Ikaite with hatred and malice. This becomes more prominent if both Fire Agate and Garnet lose themselves in Ikaite’s hatred, releasing their control over her, and allowing her to release her anger onto any poor soul who crosses her path. This rarely occurs as Fire Agate and Garnet constantly fight with each other and causes Ikaite to de-fuse regularly. 

In a hypothetical scenario, Ikaite is used to help the two fusees (mostly Fire Agate) find the root of their hatred. When they first fused they were nameless as the two fusees were unable to pick a name. Steven is the one to suggest Pineapple Opal after realizing the fruit name trend among the other fusions (Grape Agate and Cherry Opal). Though she settled on Ikaite, when Garnet and Fire Agate are able to cooperate together, she will rename herself Pineapple Opal. 

Pineapple Opal/Ikaite’s weapon is a pata sword. With its long blade, she has no trouble slicing or piercing through foes. She can generate multiples at once for four of her hands. The fusion adopts many of her fusees abilities, such as heat resistance and future vision. Her specialty is advanced light manipulation. She is able to absorb light from Gems, draining them of their energy. If she absorbs enough light, she can force the gem into their gemstone and the victim may take longer to reform. Pineapple Opal/Ikaite can also absorb artificial light. The energy she gains gives her a boost in power. Additionally, she can fire ray beams from her floating eye balls.
