CLOSED EVENT STARTER FROM: EVIE @cryforlxve WHERE: FORBES & SANTOS WEDDING
jessamine forbes and xavier santos had officially tied the knot, and true to the bride’s insistence, the entire town of pinehaven had spent the night dressed to the nines. now, in the bleary, golden hued hours of the deep night, the grandeur was fracturing into comfortable, exhausted chaos. neckties were tied around foreheads, tulle skirts were tucked into waistbands, and the air smelled faintly of spilled champagne and melting candle wax. off to the side of the swirling dance floor, tucked into a temporary refuge from the flying champagne corks and overzealous line dancers, sat evie and tae. with a theatrical, full body sigh of pure relief, evie slipped one foot out of a sky high, vibrant platform heel and massaged her arch.
"i am officially introducing a new theory on midnight beasties next week," she announced, her voice instantly pivoting into that bright register that always signaled the arrival of a delightful, unstoppable tangent. "platform shoes are an absolute, undisputed government conspiracy. they exist solely to trick women into believing they can bypass the fundamental laws of gravity and anatomy. they are always, always vastly better in theory than they are in practice."
she leaned in close, letting the weight of her exhaustion pull her against his side. the deliberate, heavy brush of her shoulder against his linen clad arm sent a familiar magnetic jolt straight down her spine. a sensation that momentarily distracted her from her throbbing nerve endings, though she wouldn’t dare admit it. "think about the psychology of it," she continued, her eyes wide as she grew more deeply invested in her own rhetoric, leaning into his warmth.
"in theory, you put them on and you’re instantly a majestic, five foot eight woodland nymph who can command an audience or, you know, confidently dance to 90s pop remixes without a care in the world. in practice? in practice, your ankles are basically gelatinous over boiled noodles, and you’re one slippery spilled gin and tonic away from fracturing your fibula in front of the entire wedding party. it’s a trap, tae. a beautiful, cloud covered, orthopedic nightmare."
