Since the holiday season is coming soon, I want to know what kind of Christmas shenanigans Timon, Pumbaa, Pinky, and Brain get up to!
OOH, WHERE DO I EVEN START...?
Well, Pinky and Pumbaa always go all out with the snacks. That's a given. đ You can tell the holidays are approaching when they take their baking to the next level and there's a lingering smell of cookies in the air. (Not to mention, it helps mask some of the other smells around Timon and Pumbaa's place.) To them, there can never be enough goodies and Timon is (usually) happy to try them out. Brain? Not so much. He doesn't have the stomach for anything with bugs in it but every once and while, he might nosh on a bit of cheesecake or some pie.
Movie marathons are a big thing with them too and Timon and Brain often bicker over which ones to watch. Timon leans heavily towards the musicals (which Pinky is always delighted about) while Brain would much rather watch Scrooged, It Happened One Christmas (because Orson Welles), and the Christmas episodes of the Twilight Zone.
Another point of contention between them is Elf. It's one of those Christmas movies that folks either love or hate with a burning passion. While Timon, Pumbaa, and Pinky could watch it on a loop, Brain can't get through it without grinding his teeth and grumbling about how utterly insufferable Buddy is. (His words, not mine.) Honestly, the only film they can all agree on is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Because it's the muppets and they make everything better. Their kids can confirm this too. They start popping in as soon as the opening number plays. đ
Another tradition is Pinky telling Timon and Pumbaa the story of That Christmas. You know the one. It never fails to get them choked up annnd I'm just gonna leave this here:
Little sketches based on a Myth AU that @wimsiecal, @themurphyzone, and @pines-troz are involved in. In the AU, Pinky is Hades and Brain is Persephone. Seeing the art and headcanons that came out of their discussions was rather motivational, and so I went about putting pencil to paper (or, rather, pen to digital screen). This was quite fun to do. Was going to animate the flowers, but got lazy. Lol. My personal headcanon is that, when Brain is particularly emotional, his flowers turn to butterflies. However, since his love is unrequited, they always fly away, never to return.
Thanks for the inspiration, guys, including whomever came up with the original AU! :)
What are some of your favorite moments between Pinky and Brain? Anything from the small moments of banter to the more poignant scenes between the two.
I am obsessed with their small banter <3 I like those times where for some reason or other Brain just agrees with him? Heâll say âmaybe later, Pinkyâ or âpoint taken..â or âPerhapsâ and it will be about something really simple and dumb and I love that. And that one scene I mentioned before where Brain is calculating the cost of a plan and includes the cost of onion bagels for the ride and Pinky says âWhat, no cream cheese?â and Brain responds âCream cheese, of course!â and immediately factors that in. Thatâs so cute. And when Pinky cooks for him and heâs just like âdo you want food pellets or food pellets?â heâs literally just bringing him food pellets lol. But itâs nice.Â
Also this scene in particular
I still think thatâs so funny and precious. Of course we are seconds away from Brain yelling at him because heâs actually saying something dumb, but the way theyâre vibing tho.Â
And I like when they are Soft tm. That whole bit where Brain doesnât want to admit he loves and prioritizes Pinky in the Halloween ep...but when Snowball starts running on the wheel heâs like âHey! Thatâs Pinkyâs wheel!â and pulls him off. Like heâs fully expecting Pinky to come back and people should definitely not be touching his things and he will make sure of this. I count that as a soft interaction even though Pinky isnât even there for it lol. And there are times where Pinky just has nice things to say about him, and I think the best is he says something Brain said was funny and Brain responds âI am not without humor.â Pinky acknowledging Brainâs sense of humor and Brain accepting the compliment is v funny and nice to me.Â
The Christmas scene is always everyoneâs favorite and for good reason. Itâs really the peak of them caring about each other. It is really interesting to see Brain violently reject an opportunity to take over the world because he realizes in that moment it made him act horribly towards the one person who cares about him, and under those circumstances he just doesnât want it anymore. And it was so sweet to see that Pinky did everything in his power to give Brain the world, and in the event that he couldnât, he still made sure he could in his own way, by gifting him a little globe keychain. Itâs so good.Â
Also, this scene from Operation Sealion
Where Pinky is heartbroken and sobbing and Brain comforts him. Itâs implied that Brain thinks Pinkyâs big heart is his best trait a few times in the series. So even though he always has something snarky to say about Pinkyâs interspecies romances, I think he takes Pinkyâs heartache very seriously because he knows it genuinely hurts him, and heâs sympathetic towards that. Itâs a really good moment of Hey, I know this is stupid to me, but Iâm sorry youâre hurting. Itâll be okay. He goes so far as to rub his back and hold his hand and thatâs so sweet.Â
Idk, a lot of this is vague but I think the overall vibe that at the end of the day, aside from being cagemates and megalomaniacal mouse and his sidekick, theyâre also friends who watch movies and eat bagels, is great and makes them fun characters to watch. Â
What are your top ten favorite Pinky and the Brain episodes?
Hey there! Iâm sorry I took a while to answer your ask.
Top ten, huh...this was actually kind of hard. Note that Iâm not listing these in order of most to least favorite I just listed them as they came to mind (:
1. Snowball
Okay well, pretty much all the Snowball episodes, but the first one especially. The flashback to them as lil babies is really one of the most heart-wrenching moments of the series for me. Poor Brain and Snowball were so traumatized. Also the way their relationship deteriorated from friends to arch-enemies is horribly sad - the only criticism I have is that the circumstances of this deterioration is very vaguely explained, but thatâs what fanfiction is for, right?
2. Welcome To The JungleÂ
This one, again, because of Snowball. Think itâs the first episode where we really start to see how mentally ill he is. Brain has this intense hatred of him but at the same time he seriously pities him. Also, Brain was just so out of character in this episode, Iâm not saying that as a criticism, it was due to his surroundings. I found it really interesting to see him in an environment where he has no choice but to rely on others because he canât do anything. Until he completely kicks Snowballâs ass in that fight towards the end lmaoooo. And Pinky...his superior survival instincts really threw me for a loop the first time I saw this episode. He managed to tie up and EAT(??) an entire boar, what even??
3. Brain Noir
There were some things I didnât like about this episode (mainly Billie, although I liked the twist at the end which actually surprised me) but overall I still like it enough to put it in my top ten. I always liked the noir episode trope, so this was right up my alley. The little hats and trenchcoats were too cute! Also, Snowball.
4. Brainwashed
Iâm just gonna count this as one big episode if thatâs okay lol. Anyway there are many criticisms of this three-parter but I loved it. The Schmeerskahoven, Brain and Pinky having to save the world (not from Snowball for once). I really liked the twist with Precious at the end. Also, last appearance of Snowball. Unfortunately I think Roddy McDowall (Snowballâs voice actor) passed away a month after it aired. I wonder if he even got to see it, he was pretty sick with cancer. ):
5. A Pinky and the Brain Christmas
Because how could I NOT include this one...in a previous ask I said this was my favorite episode but my opinions have changed since then, I donât have a single favorite episode I canât pick just ONE. Ugh the feels. This episode is like...the main reason why the PatB fandom is called the crying mice fandom especially around Christmas. I went into more detail about what I liked about this episode here.
6. A Pinky and the Brain Halloween
AGAIN. THE FEELS. This episode made me cry the first few times I watched it, Pinky willingly signs himself over to Satan and goes to HELL so that Brain can have the world. AAAHH. Also I liked how they gave Brain a talent for rhythmic gymnastics, thatâs cute. AND THEN WHEN BRAIN LOSES THE COMPETITIONÂ âHAVE FUN BEING TORTURED FOR ALL ETERNITYâ AS HEâS SOBBING AND PINKYâS SOBBING AND HEâS WALKING AWAY JUST STAB ME IN THE HEARTÂ
7. Megalomaniacs Anonymous
This one. I absolutely LOVE this episode. We get another dimension to Brain that we didnât see in other episodes. I would show this episode to anyone hell-bent on calling Brain a villain - this is affirmation that heâs definitely an anti-hero. Brainâs motivations for taking over the world really are to make it a better place. Even though he has an inflated ego and can be extremely selfish (coughcoughAPINKYANDTHEBRAINHALLOWEENcough), and it is kind of all about him, underneath all his bad traits he has a very good heart.Â
8. Brinky
Some people like Romy, some people donât. I for one LOVE him, and I hope to see him in the reboot. This episode was just too adorable. There was a post somewhere on here that said Romy is just THE perfect blend of Pinky and Brain. It couldnât be more true. Also, extremely cute fun fact - Maurice LaMarche voiced younger Romy and Rob Paulsen voices Romy as an adult, so theyâre both credited for his role. Itâs so fitting.
9. This Old Mouse
I like all the sad episodes, lol. Poor Brain and his mid-life crisis. It was really sad to see Pinky go all that way to warn him about the avalanche, just for Brain to tell him he canât save him because the future canât be changed. But Pinky wouldnât take no for an answer, and saved him anyway thank goodness. Poor babies...
10. Broadway Malady
Brain was just...a massive dick in this episode, but granted it was because he was incredibly salty over Pinkyâs musical becoming more successful than his. At least he realizes how awful he was to Pinky in the end. And in that one scene when he sees how lonely Pinky is despite the fact that his musical is a hit, because he doesnât have Brain, and Brain just breaks down. You just canât separate these two at all. ): Also, just...how it became less about the plan to take over the world, Brain put that on hold for the sake of his art. Priorities, lol.Â
One Brain vs. Timon conflict that Iâve been thinking of is that they try out for a play at community theater and they try to out theater kid each other. Brain takes acting seriously and treats it with gravitas while Timon is more of a flashy showman type. Itâs be even funnier if they got different roles but theyâre trying to steal the shoe by any means necessary.
LOL YES, they would totally try to outdo each other as much as possible. Anything for that extra moment in the spotlight. I could see Brain launching into this dramatic monologue, (maybe something from The Glass Menagerie or Death of a Salesman), and Timon interrupting it with a big musical number, just bringing in the chorus line and the fireworks and all that good stuff. In the end, they wind up getting cast in the opposite roles with Timon doing the pathos and Brain doing the showtunes. đ
A little something done for my sweet friend @pines-troz as part of a Halloween exchange! Was also a perfect opportunity to tell her how much I appreciate the work that she does on the @poitcast. She does a great job, and I am honored to be her co-host!! <3
Well, that was one of the funnest streams ever!! :3 <3 <3
Had a great time with awesome folks @shuunthenonbeliever, @pines-troz, @acmelab, @megalomice, and @deez-art!! Nini was the Queen of Hangman, and Deez guessed âPinky Suavoâ right off the bat! Had a great time with yâall. Tâwas fun!! :D <3
Also, thanks goes out to all of you who support my work in any way, form, or capacity. It means so much to me. *hugs*
I have the funniest scenario for Timon and Pumbaa & Pinky and The Brain: They form a barbershop quartet! While there is a lot of in-fighting between Timon and The Brain (as to be expected), but when it comes to performing in competitions all four of them lock the heck in.
AWW YES, THAT'S AMAZING! They've all got great voices and a lot of pizzazz and they would totally bring down the house! When Timon and Brain aren't roasting each other, that is! đ
