logans baring the burden of being the only member of their little team with a relatively normal and healthy childhood
i’m not sure if this question even makes sense, but if you were to rank everyone in terms of how powerful they are in ping verse, how would you do that?
the twins clear every other anomaly on the planet by orders of magnitude. their powers are capable of a feedback loop that can generate theoretically infinite power. it was a really, really good thing that remus got away before the peacekeepers could figure out how to properly weaponize them.
in terms of purely destructive ability, virgil and logan are probably tied, but logan's powers have more versatile positive uses as well. as logans mental health improves post defection, he starts having to siphon off the excess energy into various rechargeable batteries remus keeps for this purpose. logan joy is a renwable resource
Patton is probably next because his powers can be used in very versatile ways, but its also a lot subtler of an ability, not as flashy or impressive as logan virgil or the twins
and then either bottom or tied with patton is probably janus, because most of janus's power comes from his intellectual ability in using his powers, not the powers themselves. he can limited shapeshift some animals parts that give him an edge in a fight against a similate or a less flashy anomaly, but his power is mostly just 'can be any normal guy with some minor additions' which is the COOLEST power definitely (source: im trans) but not really the STRONGEST power
how much have roman logan and patton actually spoken about the morality of the peacekeepers/the system before defecting? like i could imagine the conversation where logan suggests the secret backdoor messaging system being super risky if there wasnt some kind of unspoken acknowledgement that the three of them might not be as on their side as they pretend
okay so the thing here is that if patton was evil this could have been so so so very bad
because basically the progression is that patton opens their literal first interaction with an implicit 'i care more about you, personally, than i do about the handlers rules'
this immediately sets the tone and then he just keeps escalating that vibe. and Roman and Logan, cut off from their families, with only each other and not even knowing each others names, are desperate for companionship and affection and love.
so after a few months to a year of increasingly explicit "im with you, not the boss" they finally Actually Say That Out Loud probably around the same time the dark sides come on the scene. logan's communicator hack comes later still, and by the time of Destination Wedding, Roman is not at all worried about the possibility of Logan or Patton turning on him or refusing to run interference
as for how they had the initial conversations without getting caught, well there are maybe a handful of secret lefts in the last chapter of ectgir. little ones. kinda. dont panic.
ping Remus being like "hey I need extra power cells for my freeze ray, wanna move up next week's hangout to today and see if we can make a miniature wormhole?" to Logan
remus is also wanna those friends who wants to hang out all the time he's very extroverted, which can be a little overwhelming for logan patton and roman at first (its been a long time since they socialized with anyone but each other)
but once they hit their stride intrulogical are gonna be just SUCH good buds. kings of experimental yes and. there will be explosions
does Logan resent his parents at all for putting him into the peacekeeper system?
a little - this realization would have been when he was a junior keeper (george and diane were under the impression that volunteers chose their own assignments which is technically, technically, true, and that logan would never become a keeper) and while logan was very isolated at that point, he was still permitted some contact with his parents while still a minor
so they pretty much immediately hash it out. it takes multiple of their 1hour a week phone calls, and a lot of running mediator from Rémy, but Logans forgiven them for it - thats just kinda how the brands are. it gets hashed out as soon as possible and you keep hashing it out until its resolved.
his parents may, possibly, be pretty horrified by just how out of practice logan has gotten at this concept
"Is that what most parents do?" "What did yours do?" Have I mentioned that I love Logan and his parents. What did his parents do? How often does "Is that what most parents do" come up when Logan is talking about parenting?
The Brands wer one of those montessori-toys-from-birth hyper-involved households. rather than order or command him logans parents would generally gather the family round the table and discuss what happened and what went wrong and what they might do next time.
its all very cerebral and Meeting Of Equals because Diane's a hippie and George is a lawyer and Rémy is a bohemian globetrotter so theyre all very Avant Garde about their childrearing.
if, like harry and elliott, logan were keeping a secret from his parents as a child and they knew about it, the immediate thought is not going to be ordering him to elaborate, its going to be making him comfortable and safe and assured until he tells them of his own accord
so Logan finds the idea of a parent forcing or ordering or compelling a child to do really anything to be not only distasteful but bizarre and pointless.
(you can imagine that once george and diane realized just how badly the peacekeepers were treating logan and that their decision to check him into the system was a mistake, they did not handle it well)
Logan's parents had all of of his pre-transition school accolades professionally altered by art restorationists to match his proper name. this is very sweet, except logan transitioned at like 7 so all of the accolades are like "Aced Spelling List Every Day This Week" x 20. So Logan finds this deeply embarrassing. But They Love Him So Much
🔦 for the ping emojis!
sometimes in power outtages, if theres no nearby light, logan will consent to play lamp (ha) while they go looking for the flashlights and candles. patton calls him 'nightlight' as a pet name sometimes
