FOTD #023 : pink bonnet! (mycena rosella)

the pink bonnet is a saprotrophic fungus in the family mycenaceae. there is little currently known about it !! it occurs in russia, but may be more widespread.

the big question : can i bite it?? the edibility of m. rosella is unknown.

m. rosella description :

"gills on hymenium. cap is conical & pink. hymenium is adnate. stipe is very long, bare, light pink to white & slightly translucent. spore print is white."

Stephen Axford found this group of colorful fungi - Mauve Parachutes (Marasmius haematocephalus) - near his home in New South Wales, Australia. “It’s unusual to get such a big group of these fungi together,” he wrote.  Axford used a Canon 1Ds Mark III and a 180mm macro lens.
