Is it really so bad to like bad characters?

Why do people act as if liking bad characters automatically makes you a psychopath—especially if the character belongs to a minority group? Because if they do, they’re seen as poorly written, bad representation that needs to be immediately discarded. Sure, maybe the character isn't the next Hamlet in terms of development, but that doesn't make them trash!

I love lesbian grifters, I love evil Black and Latino characters, I love lying trans characters, I love disabled characters who are total jerks. And I’m not going to ignore or sugarcoat their behavior just because I like them—in fact, that’s exactly why I like them. Maybe they aren't the best representation of a community, but characters aren't propaganda. Why the hell do we always have to be portrayed as squeaky-clean for everyone else?! I didn't want to play this card, but I am just so tired of all this moralizing...

If it may appease the court (@pogostikk, @altades, @empanadastheresurrection, and anyone else who wants to weigh in) I would like to submit, for your approval, my Dimond!Steven AU!

I call it the Secret Crystals AU. Per the usual Steven is discovered to have Pink Dimond's gem during The Trial, after which he is forced to take on her role. Fast forward six years and Steven is in pure survival mode, that is until Connie shows up on Homeworld.

Steven Universe has been slowly dragging me into a new hyper fixation. The three creators mentioned above all have such amazing AUs and it inspired me to create my own!

I have so many ideas for this AU (including a comic of Connie and Steven's reunion) so let me know if you guys are interested in seeing more.
